Have you ever given a child a toy only to find they prefered playing with the box? There could be a reason for that, as @ChristinaCDuff @DublinCityUni explains. Find out more on @RTEBrainstorm radio show tonight 10pm @RTERadio1

The 6 Key Messages underpinning the new primary curriculum. Dr Patrick Sullivan of @NCCAie quotes Professor Anne Looney, describing curriculum as "The collection of stories that one generation chooses to tell to the next" #primarydevelopments
Some of the questions asked to children as part of consultation. The "magic wand" question apparently generated great imaginative discussion and lots of Harry Potter related answers 🪄 #primarydevelopments @NCCAie
Interim report on findings will be available soon, but preliminary findings indicated children want more choice, workbooks change experience of curriculum areas (pictures are important) and playful and active learning is preferable to sitting at desk #primarydevelopments
Using mosaic approach, children could choose their own methodology to express their experiences and opinions #primarydevelopments
Excited to represent @Irishheart_ie at @NCCAie Consultative Conference in Croke Park #primarydevelopments today. Looking forward to discussions on new primary curriculum and hearing from children on their experiences in the classroom

This week I had the pleasure of attending a great presentation at @UlsterUni from @josalmon on @TransformUsIPAN movement programme for schools in Australia. Lots of learning and useful insights for future work on @Irishheart_ie #bizzybreaks and schools #healthliteracy project.
Thank you to @playboard_ NI for a really informative session today, the first of a series of engagements around play in the Republic. Great to see so many people interested and a jam packed (virtual) room! #ProgressingPlayInIreland
At #IPAGlasgow2023 somebody mentioned an attendee from Irl made observation about language around play in schools:In UK it's generally school "playground"+children go out for "playtime".But here we call it "yard" and children use it for "break" #ProgressingPlayInIreland
What does that say about the purpose of this time and what message does it convey to children? The more you think about it the more it sounds like prison! 🙊 #ProgressingPlayIreland

When #IPAGlasgow23 closed, some awesome folks from @IPAUSA_PLAY let me tag along on a field trip to see some play spaces in Glasgow. First up was @childrens_wood, a community-led space where children can experience nature and play thechildrenswood.co.uk/about…
My 24hrs at #IPAGlasgow23 conference was unforgettable, but the highlight was meeting my fellow international @PARSPlaywork trainers IN PERSON! 2 years ago we met for 1st time online from 6 different countries and they are an exceptional group that I'm so proud to be part of! ❤️
Second stop on #IPAGlasgow23 field trip was @BalticAp, an adventure playground in a low SES area where children and young people can learn, explore and have fun in a safe and engaging environment balticstreetadventureplay.co…
And that's in addition to loose parts, dens, sand pit, tree houses and whatever else the children decide to build or shape.
