Chronoswiss is giving one of its most unconventional watches a colorful new treatment with the Neo Digiteur Pastel Code, a trio of limited editions in Rose, Mint, and Sky retaining the Neo Digiteur’s distinctive rectangular case and entirely mechanical digital time display, but pairing that technical architecture with pastel pink, green, and blue dials. Rather than indicating the time with conventional hands, the original Digiteur from 2005 used separate windows and mechanically driven discs. Chronoswiss revived the concept 20 years later as the Neo Digiteur, updating both the case and movement while preserving the basic idea of a mechanical watch that reads more like a digital one. Inside is the hand-wound Chronoswiss Caliber C.85757, which operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3Hz, and provides approximately 48 hours of power reserve. Most importantly for the Neo Digiteur, it is fitted with Chronoswiss’s proprietary jumping-hour module, which handles the energy requirements of advancing the hour indication while driving the minute and seconds displays. Rather than the hand-guilloché movement decoration used on those watches, the new versions feature a rhodium-plated movement module decorated with radial Côtes de Genève. The shaped sapphire caseback remains, its form recalling the rectangular Fleurier movements used in the original 2005 Digiteur. Jumping-hour watches already occupy a somewhat eccentric corner of mechanical watchmaking, and Chronoswiss pushes the concept further by eliminating conventional hands altogether and placing the mechanism inside a strongly architectural rectangular case. Rose, Mint, and Sky don’t fundamentally change that formula. Instead, they change its tone, putting an unexpectedly lighthearted palette around a decidedly serious piece of mechanical engineering with just 99 of each being produced.
