Things to say when you don’t know what to say: “I know things are hard right now. Just wanted to let you know that I love you.” “Thanks for being in my life.” “I’m here for you in whatever I can be.” “I’m really proud of you.” “Your friendship means a lot to me.” "I miss you."

We should support people who have a medical condition with the tools they need. Whether their condition is addiction, diabetes, or heart disease, how we treat people shouldn’t change. #LifeUnitesUs #EndAddictionStigma #RecoveryIsPossible

Addiction is treatable, but too often, the tools that are proven to work are stigmatized. We shouldn’t judge how someone recovers; we should support the fact that they are recovering. #LifeUnitesUs #EndAddictionStigma #RecoveryIsPossible

At 12 I started using drugs. At 14 I was incarcerated and made a ward of the court. At 16 I joined a gang & bounced through foster care. By 18, I was already fully immersed in crime, drugs & prison. By 23, I was fully addicted & homeless & facing multiple near fatal medical issues for years. At 42 I died 6 times. At 43 I got sober. At 44 I became a father. At 45 I got my first legitimate job in years. At 49 I did my 1st TEDx Talk. At 50 I became an International Public Speaker. Nobody thought I'd live past 30 & here I am. It's never too late to start over!

Addiction affects people of all ages, all genders, and all income levels. It’s a medical condition, just like diabetes. And like diabetes, people with it can have meaningful lives, too. Erasing stigma makes that possible for more people. #LifeUnitesUs #EndAddictionStigma

Whether it’s asthma or addiction, a medical condition is never someone’s choice. But the stigma toward people with addiction blames them—and that keeps people from getting treatment, getting better, and living full lives. #LifeUnitesUs #EndAddictionStigma #RecoveryIsPossible

SAFE Project applauds the FDA's approval of Narcan, the naloxone hydrochloride nasal spray, for over-the-counter (OTC) distribution. As our country continues to struggle with this epidemic, this approval is a step toward making naloxone more readily available, saving more lives.

We criminalize poverty. We criminalize homelessness. We criminalize addiction. We criminalize people who use drugs. We criminalize mental health. Let's make 2023 the year we support people who struggle with these health conditions instead of criminalizing them. #healthcare
