the more i learn about history, the more I appreciate America. America is actually an extremely cool and special anomaly in the timeline of civilizations. It's so successful that it's allowed the people inside it to lose touch with how bad things can truly be

Replying to @animalologist
weve become a society addicted to reducing friction, at the cost of texture
Hello world. I still have a pulse, for those who asked. Just stretched (distended even) both inside and out . Perhaps will pop back here with my usual verve one day

Many people got one-shotted by New Atheism and threw out a religious moral beliefset on the basis of a handful of claims from that beliefset that conflicted with modern moral sentiments or just seemed strange. This is a problem, you should be evaluating beliefsets more like models of the world rather than mathematical proofs, where one issue means the whole thing is false. Choose the moral model that makes good predictions, makes reasonably good sense, and has good outcomes for people using that model to both predict and prescribe behavioral norms. It’s likelier that you have some cloudiness in your judgement than that something which makes the best predictions is wrong.
I blinked for too long on this road trip and suddenly every rest stop has private equitied itself into monotonous, saccharine and satirically generic brand pits.
How tf did “Applegreen” become the Hudson News of highways? It’s uncool and unAmerican.

Perhaps this is a good time to bring up the topic of ethical compensation for living organ donors, and with the recent news, perhaps even for possibly post humous organ harvesting.
The concerns about poverty stricken people selling organs in desperation w questionable consent remains, but guardrails like what we have in place for surrogate pregnancies may suffice, ex:
- Verification of consent/no coercion
- Psychological and physiological testing
- ‘Donors’ can back out at any point while conscious — no enforceable contracts
- Access to donations remains available for those in need
If someone of sound mind is willing to give up a kidney or a chunk of their liver in exchange for a down payment on their next home we should allow them to make that choice. It’s their body.
A living organ market doesn’t solve for life critical organs like hearts and retinas for which perhaps dependents may be compensated, but even just allowing some remuneration may shift the market in the donor’s favor, increasing supply, saving more lives, and reinforcing consent norms in medical culture.
Saving a life by donating an organ is incredibly fulfilling for many. And no money is actually enough to compensate for the health risks. But if someone has the magnanimity and incentive to rescue a fellow human being, why can’t we allow them to become a little richer in the process?
The recent discourse about friends, feelings and romance has me confused.
I’m missing the sociopathy needed to calibrate which emotions I’m allowed to feel with whom.
If you’re my friend and connected in a serious way, I already want to hold you, kiss you, dance with you.

in a subtle but very real sense, having many kids makes parenting easier
to put it very crudely, it's a risk diversification strategy that you never articulate but the kids obviously pick up on and adjust behavior accordingly
I used to believe that constantly traveling was a sign of being a free spirit. But in truth, most people I’ve known who live this way (including my past self) are often ungrounded or dissociated - endlessly searching for meaning outside themselves. The need to constantly uproot often reflects a nervous system that feels safer in chaos than in stillness
If a new friend crashed at your house unexpectedly and you woke up to them proudly showing you that they reorganized your fridge, what would your reaction be?
Ok, this is worse than a fridge restructuring

The groypers would have more credibility if they stuck to valid criticism about Jews like the unquestionable observation that they’re terrible drivers.
There are zip codes to be avoided unless you’re looking to finally off yourself by means of road rage
I’m far from proper, but this take resonates. I have no idea what it feels like to be bored.
Even as a child, I’ve always been hacking at a backlog, dreaming up a new venture, or joyfully soaking in stillness. Always catching my breath or riding the wind, never waiting for it.
I’ve shared glances with strangers that held more charge than months of sleeping and traipsing with lovers I merely liked.
