KANAYA MARYAM'S FINEST HOUR A video essay about Kanaya the meddler, and that one time she meddled. This is my first time doing something like this. Please be nice. Link in the replies.
A couple of weeks ago, I found myself thinking about a scene from Homestuck that I really love. So I wrote an entire video essay about it. This is my first time doing this kind of thing, so the process is going a bit slow, but I'm hoping it'll be out by the end of the week.

My favorite part of the latest Beyond Canon update was when it told its readers to read Homestuck.

"Why did they make my favorite character such a bad person? :(" Because that favorite character is not your friend, and they do not reflect on you as a person. They are there to convey a narrative, and the narrative demands it. If only there was a comic that commented on this...
I've been struggling to put this into words for a while now, but I really have a feeling that a lot of Homestuck readers will tend to 'affirm' some of the worst flaws or qualities of the comic's characters in the nastiest of ways? (Cont.)

They will take Dirk's and Jane's word when they say they don't wish to be "evil", and so treat it as a contradiction in writing when Dirk and Jane both act in "evil" ways. It's confusing. It confuses me. Do they think it's a literal documentation of actual people? It's a story...

I could keep listing examples all day, but my point is that this comic has messages it wishes to convey and it would be much more productive to seek those messages out rather than grow parasocially attached to the objects (characters) through which that message is being conveyed.

I wrote this as a joke (I didn't even have what the thread topic would be in mind), but if I were to write a thread about this it would probably be about how you will often find yourself in these characters, rather than these characters finding themselves in you.
There has been much discussion over profile pictures of Homestuck characters "taking you over like a symbiote." I think it's a fascinating idea, from a psychoanalysis perspective, but I do not personally buy it. I think there is a larger discussion to be had about... (1/47)

Sometimes it is the latter though. And sometimes it is the latter in a far more literal way than what you're probably thinking. So, which case is it for me? Well. I'm not exactly one to spoil a mystery, am I?

The type of thing you'd see prime Hungrybox tweet after learning of the Mang0 tournament ban.
