5’2 guard Natalie Nakase had a dream school coming out HS: UCLA. She decided to bet on herself & walk-on. Nakase tore her ACL & missed her entire freshman year, but kept going. She later became the team’s starting PG & captain. Nakase tried to play pro but another knee injury led her to transition to coaching. She spent 4 years earning her stripes overseas in Japan & Germany. In 2012, she joined the Clippers staff as a video intern, a thankless job. She steadily climbed the ranks over a decade, breaking barriers as an assistant coach at summer league. In 2022, Nakase was a finalist for a head coaching job with the Mercury, but got passed over. So she joined Becky Hammon’s staff in Las Vegas. Nakase won titles and learned while waiting for her chance. The Valkyries saw her leadership, her vision, she was named the first head coach for the expansion franchise. Now she’s the first Asian American head coach to win a WNBA title in just her 2nd season. Trailblazer.

Kaitlyn Chen graduated from UConn in 2025 & didn’t expect to get drafted. She showed up to WNBA draft night to support her close friend & teammate Paige Bueckers. Chen was pulled from the crowd stunned when her name was called 30th overall. Still, 3rd round picks rarely make it to the opening day roster in the W. Sure enough, she was waived by the Valkyries after preseason. Chen went straight to work to make sure she was ready if she got a call. That call came a month later and she rejoined the Valkyries. In the offseason, she worked her butt off playing overseas and for Athletes Unlimited, but the Valks only signed her to a 2026 training camp contract, essentially a try out. She continued to put her head down and work. The team announced she earned a spot, and soon a key bench role. Now she’s a champion. Inspiration. #valkyries

On this day in 2000, Charles Barkley made his full-time Inside the NBA debut, and it took him less than a minute to start causing chaos.
Now, exactly 26 years later, the 2026-27 season is also expected to be Barkley's last.

👤 Karson Maze
🏀 Mead HS (WA)
🎓 2027
📌 Light the Game Combine
💡 The senior Spokane guard showed value as a disruptive point-of-attack defender. With a strong frame and good lateral quickness he was able to get underneath and stand up ball handlers. Offensively, Maze is a good shooter with rhythm and capability as a playmaker — although more connective than dynamic. As he leverages the threat he poses as perimeter shooter to get paint touches and create for teammates, his game and opportunities will see growth.

👤 Treyson Hill
🏀 Thurston HS (OR)
🎓 2028
📌 Light the Game Combine
💡 The 6’5” wing is coming into his own as one of the better perimeter prospects in the PNW, and Treyson continued his emergence over the weekend in Portland. He’s a capable perimeter shooter, but showed an ability to finish straight-line drives vs. contact. He will have to continue to fill out his frame (+3” WS), and grow in his fluidity as a ball handler to take next steps in his growth.

👤 Jaiden Thomas
🏀 Annie Wright (WA)
🎓 2030
📌 Light the Game Combine
💡 One of the youngest and smallest players at the event, Jaiden consistently found ways to make a big impact. He plays with composure and pace beyond his years, using changes of speed and well-timed hesitations to keep defenders off balance and create opportunities for teammates. His shooting touch already extends beyond the three-point line, adding another dimension to his offensive game. As he adds strength and gains high-level reps throughout his freshman season, he’ll have a strong foundation to build on.

👤 Ryan Rohrbacher
🏀 Bainbridge HS (WA)
🎓 2028
📌 Light the Game Combine
💡 Rohrbacher showed his ability to bury shots in bunches throughout the afternoon, hitting shots in spot-up situations as well as on the move. Where the junior impressed most was in his ability to create quality looks off the dribble with pull-ups and step-backs while still finishing on balance. One of the co-MVPs of the event, Rohrbacher also displayed an awareness and engagement as an off-ball defender that caught the eye of the staff on hand.

Seek truth tellers on your journey the grown men who laugh at your jokes that aren't funny won't be there for you when it's Rosetta Stone time.
Florida State head coach Luke Loucks' recruiting pitch to Shon Abaev in the transfer portal:
"Shon, you want to play in the NBA? I'm just telling you your efficiency is abysmal. Your shot selection is terrible. You don't guard anyone. You don't rebound. It seems like you're only interested in playing when the ball goes in the hoop. And the ball didn't go in the hoop."
Damn. 😭

John Wall says he still texts his mother every morning and night and has continued to pay her phone bill to keep her number active since she passed away in 2019
“I made sure I paid the bill for that for the rest of the time I’m going to be on this earth, so I can send my daily text in the morning and my daily text at night”
“It helps me. I know she can’t respond, but I can still send my messages and know that nobody else has her number. And sometimes you have your moments when you just sitting at home and you just reflect”
“And I always look at pictures and reflect. My display screen on my phone is my first game against the Sixers, and we win the game and I give her a hug, and I always keep that as my bio picture”
