As I’m out watching games this week: Dear youth ⚽️ coaches, Yelling at your players to “wake up” or “that’s not good enough” isn’t coaching. In fact if they are even listening, what you’re yelling is going to have a negative effect more often than not. Learning to control our emotions & knowing we don’t have to say everything that pops into our heads is part of coaching maturity. – at Alameda, CA

“You’re better than that” “You can do better than that” “Unlucky” “Keep your head down” “Get over the ball” All these hundreds of useless negative or all the useless cheer leading coming from coaches needs to stop. Clear & Specific instructions to specific players about specific situations when absolutely necessary. Other than that? Sit, take notes, discuss with assistants & key members, figure out solutions & adjustments if necessary. By match end, a coach should know exactly what training will be like that next week. – at California, USA
