Moe Berg travelled to Switzerland to attend a lecture by the eminent German physicist Werner Heisenberg. Berg`s mission was to determine how close the Nazis were to an operational atomic bomb, and if they were close, Moe Berg was to shoot Heisenberg and then kill himself. But after listening to the lecture, Berg decided they were not all that close, and his mission was aborted. Instead of killing him, Berg walked Heisenberg back to his hotel, picking his brain about physics along the way. "Moe Berg’s crucial contribution to the war cause, was that he could offer Oppenheimer, General Leslie Groves and other Manhattan Project leaders: "Reassurance in some ways that there wasn’t something they were missing" regarding a potential German bomb." Sam Kean. For his work with the OSS during World War II, Moe Berg was awarded the "Medal of Freedom." Moe Berg turned it down!! "Maybe I’m not in the Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame like so many of my baseball buddies, but I’m happy I had the chance to play pro ball and am especially proud of my contributions to my country. Perhaps I could not hit like Babe Ruth, but I spoke more languages than he did." Morris "Moe" Berg. Catcher, served as a spy for the Office of Strategic Services during WWII. "The brainiest guy in baseball and the strangest man ever to play baseball. He can speak seven languages, but he can’t hit in any of them." Casey Stengel. "I know Moe that you are in counterintelligence, which I assume means you are against intelligence." Red Smith interviews Moe Berg. In 1934, the, "Connie Mack All-Star" tour of Japan was a pivotal, 18-game exhibition series in November-December 1934 featuring legends like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Jimmie Foxx. Moe Berg wasn’t there for his ability to play, but to spy. While playing tourist in Japan, Berg takes hidden photos of important military and industrial sites for the U.S. Government, photos which will come in handy during WWII. "If he wasn’t real, you’d have to invent him!!!" ALWAYS, ALWAYS in my HOF!!!!!!

Alright I have the funniest stat of all time so I will go public for this one. India has 41 Olympic medals total in their entire history. They have precisely zero medals from the Winter Olympics. BUT at the same time India has over 1400 medals in the Special Olympics.

A message from every professional baseball scout to every high school and college potential baseball prospect. We're always watching! EVERY. SINGLE. LOOK. Pregame work. I/O. BP. Bullpens. Intrasquads. Scrimmages and regular season games. Every one of those is a look — and every look is being written down. How you run to first base… or do you run to first base. How you move on the field and off the field. How you throw between innings. How you take BP when you think no scout is watching. How you execute pitches in a side session or between innings warming up. How you handle or process a poor at bat. Whether you’re coachable or whether you’re not. And how you treat your teammates. First one on the field? Last one off the field? It’s ALL being noted. All of it. Get to the Big Leagues first—before trying to act like those in the TV league. You’re not. Scouts aren't just evaluating your tools. We're evaluating everything: your habits, your effort, your work ethic, and your character. The player who gives effort every rep stands out — because so few do it consistently. Newsflash…Scouts don’t care about your “ranking” or what publications write about you (positive or negative). Scouts don’t care how much NIL money you’re getting, or if you’re getting any at all. We’ll make our own evaluations and our own decisions. Be intentional. Play hard. No matter the setting, the score, the competition or who's in the stands. When you don't, you're only hurting yourself, and you’re to blame. There is not much you can control in this game — but the one thing you can control is your effort, your work ethic, and your hustle. Because when you least expect it, someone is ALWAYS watching, and you never know which look is the one that matters. Winners Win! Make. Every. Look. Count.

Fernando Mendoza signed a rookie contract in July worth $57.27 million. Fully guaranteed. He is 22 years old. This week he announced what he is doing with his rookie season. He is starting a series called Finance with Fernando to teach people his age how to handle money. His words in the trailer. "My true passion is fiscal responsibility." He is not bluffing. He graduated from the Haas School of Business at Berkeley, and he is finishing a master's in business administration in December. Here is how he got to the point where a 22 year old can say that. All four of his grandparents left Cuba for Miami in 1960. He grew up in Miami and played at Christopher Columbus High School. In two seasons as the starting quarterback he threw for 1,396 yards and 16 touchdowns. Total. Nobody was building a recruiting class around that. He committed to Yale. Then another recruit's decision opened a door at California, and he went to Berkeley instead. He redshirted in 2022. He started eight games in 2023 and eleven in 2024. Then he hit the portal and went to Indiana, a program that had gone 9-27 in the three years before Curt Cignetti showed up. What happened next does not really happen. Indiana went 16-0. Mendoza threw 41 touchdown passes, a school record. They won at Oregon. They beat No. 1 Ohio State for the Big Ten title. Rose Bowl against Alabama, he went 14 of 16 for 192 yards and three touchdowns in a 38-3 win. Peach Bowl against Oregon, five touchdowns. Then the national championship game, against Miami. The school in his own hometown. Indiana won 27-21. He was the offensive MVP. First Heisman Trophy in Indiana history. First national championship in Indiana history. Then the Raiders took him first overall. He wears number 15 for Tom Flores, who gave him his blessing to use it. And right now he is sitting behind Kirk Cousins. So instead of waiting around, he is finishing the MBA and starting a personal finance series for people who have never had money and are about to. One more thing worth knowing about him. His mother Elsa lives with multiple sclerosis. He and his brother worked with restaurants to put items on the menu that raise money for MS research. Turn on any sports broadcast in America right now and count the sportsbook ads. The number one pick in the draft started a show about not losing your money.

"My first All-Star Game, I was sitting in my locker. I was 20-years old at the Astrodome, and I wasn't gonna move. I wasn't gonna spike anybody, I wasn't gonna leave my locker. And Willie Mays walked over across the locker room, pointed his finger right at me and said: "You should've been the starting catcher." And it meant more than any other All-Star Game memory." Johnny Bench. With Willie Mays.
