Funny thing about the kids I have coached whose parents played pro ball:
Their kids are often the best players.
Their parents are almost ALWAYS the quietest in the stands.
No yelling. No coaching. No drama.
They know how hard this game is. So they just let their kid play it.

Kenny Dillingham delivers a raw message on excellence and what average really looks like.
"It was a really, really bad day on offense. And it all stems from the passion we play with."
"Is it okay to not make a play? And if you accept it, then you accept it and that's who you're gonna be."
Then he laid out the truth:
"Don't be mad going 5-7. It's okay. Don't be mad going 6-6. Don't be mad going 3-9. 'Cause somebody has to go those records. There's gonna be tons of teams who do it. Why not us?"
If you accept average, you'll become average.
"We didn't practice bad - we didn't practice with passion."
"The best teams - it matters all the time. You wanna win everything. And today we didn't have that mindset."
They look to compete every single day. They win because they have a winning mindset.
"We didn't wanna win. We wanted to practice. And those are 2 different mindsets to me."
Then he dropped the line:
"It was a good practice for a bad team. It was an average practice for an average team. That's what today was."
This is what the mindset of excellence looks like:
"We didn't practice with passion." → Good isn't good enough.
"It matters all the time." → Standards never take a day off.
"It was a good practice for a bad team." → Champions demand more.

Interesting fact: A high school football game has 48 minutes on the clock.
But a study found the average play lasts just 5.6 seconds. At 130 plays, that’s roughly 12 minutes of actual action between BOTH teams.
Months in the weight room. Summer heat. Film. Practice. All for opportunities measured in literal seconds.
And you don’t know which 5.6 seconds will decide the game.
That backside block you took off? The pursuit you cut short because somebody else would get him?
That might’ve been it.

The best teams don’t rely on stars, they rely on habits & standards. Every player owns their role. Every rep, every play, every ounce of effort adds up. Because when one person locks in, it pushes everyone else higher. The power of one becomes the power of all. That’s teamwork!
NEW: Florida's Jon Sumrall refers to Tuesday as "Bloody Tuesday" and his "game day":
"We got a great indoor here. On Tuesdays, we don’t use the damn indoor. I don’t want anybody going in the indoor on Tuesday. We’re going to be outside. I hope it’s hot. Tuesdays have to be physical and violent, and you gotta strain, or you don’t know how to play way on Saturday."

"Coach, what's the 1st play?"
Well, let's go 21p & shift from 2x2 spread into a slot (fib) pistol formation.
Let's run GT counter slider RPO, might as well add a jet fake and get 4 guys crossing the centerline.
We'll put the inside linebackers eyeballs in a blender & let the RB break the ankles of the nickel.
"But coach, who's gonna block the corner?"
Son, make corners tackle. Put it on a T-shirt.

Cooper Kupp's mindset is a blueprint for the inner game of performance.
“From Monday through Saturday, I do everything I can to be the best version of myself…Once I step on the field, it doesn’t matter. The results don’t matter. I get to play from victory, not for victory.”
You can’t play free until you’ve done the work.
Preparation builds confidence. Detachment unlocks freedom.
When you combine the two, you perform from a place of peace, not pressure.

Becoming obsessed with language: Do my players understand the language we speak?
Do they know what it means to “show for the ball”?
To “contain”?
To “press”?
To “get wide”?
A lot of my improvements have come from discovering where kids understand and where they don’t
