It was a bit surreal to arrive at a CPD event at Leicester City and see other coaches wearing TSR bobble hats.
What made it really nice was that I felt they were supporting TSR. They believed in what we are doing and what we stand for.
Every time someone buys a bobble hat, it helps us put money back into The Sporting Resource. We can continue to improve the page, develop the website and create more for the coaching community.
It makes you stop and consider how far we have come.
If you would like to show your support for TSR, you can buy the hats here:

How can we ever keep everyone happy?
@DanAbrahams77 recounts a tale from his time at Bournemouth. One player loved the session, the other hated it!
You just can't win them all!
“They’re just trying to survive.”
@DanAbrahams77 joins me to explore how coaching, confidence and pressure shape a football brain—and why wanting to win isn’t enough.

My @SundayShare10 this week is this.
🔧 TECHNICAL BREAKDOWN — TEL'S SOLO STRIKE vs CHELSEA
📍 Phase 1 — Receiving & Shielding
* Wins back possession ~60m from goal, tight to the left touchline
* First touch: inside of right foot, takes ball away from pressure into open space
* Body positioning: side-on, low centre of gravity, arm out to create separation — physically shrugs off Acheampong without breaking stride
* Key detail: He doesn't dally — one touch sets the direction, momentum is immediately forward
⚡ Phase 2 — Acceleration & Dribbling
* Bursts past the defender using short, quick strides — keeps the within arm's reach but never under his feet.
* Love the fact he drove across the defender as well to slow the player down as he knew if any contact would get a free kick.
* 3–4 touches over ~35m before cutting inside — tight control at top speed
* As he approaches the final third, he checks his run slightly → invites Lacroix to commit → then shifts inside onto his right foot
* Key detail: Eyes stay up the entire run — scanning options, watching the defender's hips
🎯 Phase 3 — The Set & Finish
* Approaches the box, opens hips perfectly → creates the angle across his body, makes the GK think he is going into the far corner to make the GK move across as Tel is travelling with the ball.
* One touch across onto his right → sets the ball just far enough away from his feet to generate power without sacrificing accuracy
* Strike: instep, through the horizontal midline of the ball → keeps it low & true
* No backlift wasted — compact, efficient technique
* Result: Low, hard, inside the far post — keeper has zero reaction time
What separates good players from great ones is control under pressure — Tel didn't just run fast, he managed the situation the whole way. Body shape, timing of the cut, and the calmness to place it rather than blast it. Elite.

Seeing too many youth football/soccer coaches keep it ultra safe in the defending third.
Playing “safe” passes all the time doesn’t develop better players. And it doesn’t always keep the ball either. I’ve watched plenty of those “safe” passes get intercepted anyway.
Time to rethink how we teach kids to play out from the back. ⚽️

Using bounce players can really help players to:
Play forward
Play wide
Combine
Move off the ball
These are three simple set ups to use.
Encourage players to play wide by awarding extra points if they combine with a bounce player before scoring.

Most youth football/soccer coaches never connect the dots:⚽️👇🏼
How you coach in training directly shapes how your players feel.
Negative coaching creates negative kids.
Positive coaching builds confidence and love for the game.
The connection is that simple. Be positive!

As a youth football/soccer coach, coach principles over patterns.
Patterns are rigid. Principles are flexible.
Especially at the youth level, teach them how to think and solve problems not just follow scripts.
That’s how you develop real players who can make great decisions.
