When culture has changed in a program...the player’s police themselves. The coach sets the standards and direction. But there is so much power in a player telling his peers “this is how we go about our business.” Or even better “we don’t do that here.”

Coaching candidates can handle waiting better than silence. Searches take time, and coaches understand that. But there's a big difference between "We'll update you next Friday" and two weeks of no communication. ADs: when timelines change, send the update. Even if it's brief.
