Jay Wright challenges the way successful people explain their accomplishments: “Gratitude, I really believe, comes with humility. And I think humility comes with intelligence.” “There’s two kinds of people in the world. Those who are humble. And those who are about to be.” “We’re all going to get humbled in our life. No matter how much success we have, there’s always going to be somebody that’s going to beat us. At some time, we’re going to fail.” “You also have to be smart enough to know that there are a lot of times that you do a great job… But there were some things that happened out of your control that helped you become successful. It’s not all you.” “Our last four points before that shot were all foul shots where we got a call. Everybody complains when there’s a call made against them and they lose. But no one says when you got a call.” “People would ask me, ‘You won a national championship. Did that make you know how to do it and make it easier to win another national championship?’” “I said, ‘Hell no.’” “It made me realize how hard it was to do that. And all the breaks that we had to get along the way to win it. Some of our previous teams were just as good as that team. They got some bad breaks. They had the same commitment. The same attitude. Things just didn’t go their way.” “You’ve got to be grateful to know you never do it alone... I get credit for that national championship, but I had Ryan Arcidiacono as the point guard, who's one of the smartest, toughest, most unselfish leaders we've ever had. And I had Jalen Brunson for the second one, and Ryan Arcidiacono taught him just as much as I did. I'm grateful for Ryan, and I'm grateful for Jalen Brunson.” “There's so much more in everything we accomplish than just us.”
