Ciara Mageean 1992 - 2026 🕊️
We are devastated to report that Ciara Mageean has died at the age of 34.
Last summer Mageean, who represented Ireland at two Olympics and stood on the podium at multiple major championships, revealed that she had cancer.
Her biggest victory came at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, where she secured the gold medal for Ireland in the 1500m.
A statement on her social media said: "At 6.30am this morning, Ciara lost her battle with cancer surrounded by her loved ones.
"A beloved daughter, sister, wife, friend and inspiration to so many, she will be deeply missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam."

32 is the new 21 💅
Rachael Rudel’s 2026 season has been straight out of a storybook. After taking nearly a decade away from the sport, Rudel has finished no worse than third at any of her six races this year. Today’s win in 15:35 at the Abbott Dash To The Finish 5K marks her third victory in a row, following top honors at U.S. 20K Champs in September and the Boston 10K for Women earlier this month.
