Two hours after Donald Trump announced Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a mutual energy ceasefire, Russia launched a cruise missile attack on Kharkiv’s CHP-5 thermal power plant.

Canadians should know this history. 🇨🇦🔎 @jamiesongreer served as chief of staff to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer during Trump’s first administration. He helped shape its trade agenda and negotiate CUSMA. In 2020, he left government for King & Spalding, where he personally represented Cleveland-Cliffs in steel trade cases. His own financial disclosure confirms the company was a client. Cleveland-Cliffs bought Stelco on November 1, 2024. Then came the return to government. Trump announced 25% steel tariffs on February 10, 2025. Greer was confirmed as U.S. Trade Representative on February 26, returning to the administration in its top trade role. The tariffs hit Canadian steel on March 12. In June, the administration doubled them to 50%. Meanwhile, Cleveland-Cliffs publicly welcomed the tariffs and subsequently reported that they supported U.S. steel prices. From helping shape Trump’s first trade agenda, to representing Cleveland-Cliffs, to leading U.S. trade policy as the second administration escalated tariffs: that revolving door deserves scrutiny. @jamiesongreer, what role did you play in these decisions? What recusals or ethics authorizations applied to matters involving your former client? Canadian steelworkers deserve transparency and answers. 🍁 #Stelco #ClevelandCliffs #CUSMA #SteelTariffs #Canada

According to reports, roughly 92% of Trump’s pardons bypassed the Justice Department entirely, with many pardons following substantial donations or strategic business agreements. It is no coincidence that his white collar criminals and buddies were pardoned. 🤬 gomcgill.com/trumps-second-t…

With Pete Hegseth at the helm, the U.S. military has conducted at least 67 unauthorized, lethal boat strikes, killing at least 223 people without any due process for perceived criminal wrongdoing or a declaration of war. This conduct amounts to nothing short of the U.S. military committing murder against civilians. I am appalled by this level of abject wrongdoing and demand an immediate halt to these extrajudicial strikes. nytimes.com/2026/08/24/us/po…

This is wild 🔥 JD Vance 🇺🇸 YESTERDAY: "We have underestimated Iran and we spent $30 billion on war." Obama 🇺🇸 TODAY: "All this to stop a nuke that didn’t exist and to open a Strait that wasn’t closed. What a loser." 🔥
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Neither JD Vance nor Barack Obama made the quoted statements, which do not appear in their public records. The $30 billion figure was cited by OMB Director Russell Vought, not Vance. airandspaceforces.com/omb-director-i… thecentersquare.com/national/artic…

Jennifer Welch: “There’s a reason Israel wanted Donald Trump to be president. It’s because he’s weak, he has no principle, he doesn’t value human life, he’s so easy to manipulate. Donald Trump is a joke. Nobody takes him seriously. The Iranians don’t take him seriously, Israel doesn’t take him seriously, the American public doesn’t take him seriously, our allies do not take him seriously. He is a dementia duck fading to black”

A theory of why Trump has put the US in a no win position in Iran. Bombing alone rarely succeeds. Germany’s blitz didn’t in WW2, nor did Allied bombing in the same war. Trump and Hegseth are ignorant of military strategy, and probably ignored Pentagon experience and knowledge.

Two other things US ignored. Iran’s ability to blockade Hormuz and Iran’s larger inventory of drones. When US inventory of bombs and missiles didn’t cause Iran to capitulate, (see above) the blockade was on. The Pentagon has probably war gamed enough to predict this outcome.

But Hegseth has severely damaged US military’s leadership, and who knows how many of his dismissals were because of differences in strategy about attacking Iran. Summary: Trump’s and Hegseth’s ignorance and over confidence. My thoughts, FWIW

I, GAVIN C. NEWSOM, AGREE. PEOPLE ARE STEALING FROM AMERICA. AND THEY'RE GETTING CREATIVE. THERE'S AN OLD GUY IN DC BUILDING A GOLD DANCE HALL AND CHARGING US $300 MILLION! ANOTHER GUY, ALSO IN DC, HAS BEEN FIXING HIS POOL FOR SIX MONTHS, WITH OUR MONEY, AND IT STILL LOOKS LIKE TOILET WATER. A DIFFERENT MAN IN DC, IS STEALING $2 BILLION A DAY FOR BOMBING A PLACE THAT WE ALREADY OBLITERATED! 12 TIMES. BUT THE WORSE IS, THIS GRANDPA WHO'S NOT ONLY SELLING INVISIBLE PHONES BUT ALSO GOT A FREE PLANE AND CHARGED US $400 MILLION TO ADD GOLD TRIM, A FULL MCDONALD'S, AND BATHROOM AMENITIES. NO. PATRIOTS WILL NEVER PAY FOR AN ADULT DIAPER CHANGING STATION. NOT ON MY WATCH!
Stealing from the American people is unacceptable. We've allowed it to go on for too long in this country. Not under @VP and the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud. 🇺🇸

The fact that Todd Blanche has refused to comply with the court order to release the Epstein files following Katie Phang's lawsuit, should have ended his bid to become AG, and be a more significant story. The fact that the Epstein Estate ACTUALLY PAID a settlement to one of the women who alleged that Donald Trump raped her as a minor, and it was paid AFTER Epstein died, as told under oath by Epstein's longtime accountant, should be a more significant story. The fact that Trump said he wasn't ever on Epstein's plane and then we found out he was, should be a more significant story. The fact that senior officials gathered in the Situation Room to concoct and coordinate an Epstein coverup should be the most significant story of all. And when you combine ALL these stories and add to it his hiring of Alex Acosta, the birthday card, the innuendo Trump wrote on the card, the movement of Maxwell to a more lenient facility, and then - especially - his persistently panicked behavior on all things Epstein, it really should be the end of his presidency.

So the people who celebrated the appointment of Darline Graham, sister of Lindsey Graham, to her brother’s Senate seat & now running for a full term - are the ones who called Kamala Harris an unqualified DEI hire.
