🇵🇱🇬🇧 POLAND AND BRITAIN SIGN THREE-YEAR DEFENCE AGREEMENT TO STRENGTHEN NATO'S EASTERN FLANK
Poland and the United Kingdom have signed the Warsaw Defence Plan, establishing a three-year framework for closer military and defence-industrial cooperation.
Signed in Warsaw on October 27, the agreement covers:
• Missile defence: Joint development and production of next-generation air defence missiles.
• Drone warfare: Co-development of drone and counter-drone technologies to protect military forces and critical infrastructure.
• Defence industry: BAE Systems and Poland's PGZ will expand large-calibre ammunition production capacity.
• Baltic security: Increased naval exercises, maritime coordination and cooperation between Britain's Type 31 and Poland's Miecznik frigate programmes.
• Cybersecurity: Stronger cooperation on cyber defence, resilience and protection against hostile threats.
• Military exercises: Expanded joint training in electronic warfare, missile defence and counter-drone operations.
Notably, Britain and Poland are also preparing a major Coalition of the Willing exercise in Poland next month, involving thousands of personnel preparing for potential post-war support operations in Ukraine.
Poland also pledged to seek greater British access to the EU's SAFE defence financing programme.
The new plan represents the first implementation phase of the broader UK–Poland Security and Defence Partnership Treaty signed in May 2026.
🇩🇰🇫🇮🇳🇴 BREAKING: DENMARK'S PM CRITICISES FINLAND AND NORWAY OVER DIRECT TALKS WITH PUTIN
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has publicly criticised today's phone call between Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Norwegian PM Jonas Gahr Støre and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking during a visit to Finland, Frederiksen said:
"I am very sceptical of this Norwegian and Finnish initiative. It was not coordinated with any of the rest of us."
She added that she sees no indication Russia genuinely wants peace with Europe or Ukraine.
"I think we should keep Europe united instead of going solo."
Notably, Finland and Norway stated earlier today that their call with Putin had been conducted in consultation with Ukraine.
The remarks reveal a clear disagreement over diplomatic coordination among Nordic NATO allies, even as all three governments continue to support Ukraine.
🇫🇮🇳🇴🇷🇺 BREAKING: FINLAND AND NORWAY HOLD DIRECT TALKS WITH PUTIN AHEAD OF ABU DHABI MEETINGS
Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre held a joint phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin today, 27 October, from Helsinki.
The call was initiated by Finland and Norway in consultation with Ukraine, following the 20 October meeting in Oslo.
According to official statements from both governments:
• The leaders discussed Russia's war against Ukraine and diplomatic efforts to end it.
• The call was directly linked to upcoming diplomatic meetings in Abu Dhabi.
• Both leaders urged a resumption of negotiations and reaffirmed their continued support for Ukraine.
• Security and stability in the Baltic Sea region and the High North were also discussed.
Notably, Stubb and Støre explicitly clarified that they spoke as leaders of their respective countries, not on behalf of Europe as a whole.
Stubb described the discussion as "frank and substantive", while Støre emphasised the importance of de-escalation.
Both countries share borders with Russia and are NATO members.

🇱🇹🇰🇷 SOUTH KOREA'S HANWHA SIGNS FOUR AGREEMENTS TO DEVELOP DRONE DEFENCE SYSTEMS IN LITHUANIA
South Korean defence giant Hanwha Aerospace has signed four agreements with Lithuanian companies to explore local production and integration of its 40mm Wheeled Anti-Aircraft Gun (WAAG).
The mobile air defence system is designed to counter low-flying threats, particularly drones, using automated fire control, advanced target tracking and 40mm ammunition.
The agreements involve four Lithuanian companies:
• KMT: Integration of the system onto military vehicles.
• Cosmos Construction: Manufacturing of turret structures.
• T&G Lithuania: Cable production.
• Nortal: Integration of command-and-control systems into NATO networks.
Hanwha is also exploring technology transfers, joint development and long-term maintenance capabilities.
Notably, Hanwha wants to help establish Lithuania as a regional defence manufacturing and maintenance hub for the Baltics.
The agreements were signed on October 23 and announced on October 26.
These are preliminary industrial cooperation agreements, not confirmed procurement contracts.
🇲🇩🇺🇦 MOLDOVA AND UKRAINE SIGN FIVE-YEAR DEFENCE AGREEMENT
Moldova and Ukraine signed a five-year military-technical cooperation agreement in Kyiv on October 26, focusing on counter-drone capabilities, air defence and joint defence projects.
The agreement includes:
• Access to Ukraine's battlefield-tested technologies and expertise in countering drones.
• Joint defence research, development and potential military production.
• Cooperation on cybersecurity, surveillance and airspace protection.
• Modernisation, maintenance and testing of military equipment.
• Protection of critical infrastructure.
Notably, Moldova's Defence Minister said that the country has recorded more than 100 airspace violations since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Moldova is particularly interested in Ukraine's relatively inexpensive, combat-proven counter-drone solutions.
The agreement can be automatically extended after five years and does not alter Moldova's constitutional neutrality.
No specific equipment transfers have been announced.
🇫🇷 BREAKING: France's only domestic producer of certain 155mm artillery shell bodies has officially entered court-supervised restructuring.
A French court ruled on Monday to place Forges de Tarbes, a strategically important supplier for CAESAR artillery ammunition, into judicial restructuring.
Key developments:
• The factory employs 63 workers and remains operational.
• Management reports that 3–4 serious potential buyers have expressed interest in acquiring the facility.
• Current owner Europlasma reportedly lacks the financial capacity to fund the modernisation needed to secure long-term production.
• Both management and employee representatives support restructuring to facilitate a potential takeover.
The decision follows concerns raised by France's defence procurement agency (DGA), which previously referred management decisions to prosecutors.
The case highlights a critical vulnerability in Europe's defence industrial supply chain, particularly as France seeks to expand 155mm ammunition production for Ukraine and its own armed forces.
No sabotage or foreign interference has been established.
🇺🇦🇪🇺 NEW: Ukraine says it has completed its part of FREYJA, the multinational project to develop a European ballistic missile defence system.
But where does the rest of the project stand?
• 🇺🇦 Fire Point - FP-7.X interceptor and launcher development.
• 🇩🇪 Hensoldt - Radar cooperation agreement.
• 🇩🇰 Weibel - Proposed radar option.
• 🇳🇴 Kongsberg - Developing command-and-control integration.
• 🇩🇪 Diehl Defence - Potential missile seeker supplier.
The project involves 10 founding countries and more than a dozen defence companies.
Fire Point has already conducted multiple interceptor tests, but integrating the radars, guidance systems and command infrastructure remains a major challenge.
Next milestone: A working prototype targeted for H1 2027, with the first ballistic missile interception test planned around mid-2027.
FREYJA is not operational yet. Its ambition is to provide Europe with a substantially cheaper alternative to existing ballistic missile interceptors.

BREAKING: 🇷🇴🇷🇺 Romania’s intelligence service (SRI) has uncovered a Russian intelligence-directed sabotage network involved in a fire at the Carfil military industrial platform in Brașov, Romania, on September 14.
According to the SRI, the network was coordinated from Russia and involved several citizens of former Soviet states living in EU countries. Judicial proceedings are underway in Romania and in cooperation with authorities in other European countries.
Investigators say Russian coordinators had assigned the network additional targets across the region, including arms factories and other military and industrial facilities. The SRI also identified other sabotage attempts in Romania this year, including at facilities used to train Ukrainian armed forces.
Romanian authorities say the operations aim to intimidate European countries, damage their defence capabilities and undermine regional security. The investigation is ongoing, with Romanian intelligence working alongside national agencies and European partners.
🇵🇱🇩🇪 NEW: Poland wants to deepen space cooperation with Germany as Warsaw moves to double its investment in the sector.
Polish Finance Minister Andrzej Domański says sovereign satellite capabilities are essential for European security.
The push comes amid major European space investments, including:
• A Polish-European military communications satellite partnership involving Airbus, Thales Alenia Space and RADMOR.
• New ESA contracts with Germany’s Airbus and Poland’s Creotech Geo for resilient positioning technologies.
• Germany’s expanding sovereign satellite reconnaissance industry.
No new bilateral satellite contract was announced today.
🇱🇻🇧🇾 MAJOR: Latvia suspects Belarusian border officials are involved in an organised scheme forcing migrants to sabotage infrastructure inside NATO territory.
A new LTV investigation reveals:
• 60+ cases of damaged border infrastructure in 2026, up from 23 in 2025.
• Migrants unable to pay smugglers are allegedly threatened with violence or torture unless they sabotage Latvian infrastructure.
• Targets include surveillance cameras and electrical distribution cabinets.
• Migrants reportedly enter Latvia carrying tools, including metal saws, damage specific infrastructure and return to Belarus.
• Smuggling routes reportedly cost around $5,000 per person, often paid in cryptocurrency.
Latvia's Prosecutor General's Office opened a criminal investigation in July and says there are reasonable grounds to suspect Belarusian border officials are involved.
Investigators are cooperating with Europol.
The allegations of Belarusian state involvement remain under investigation.
