There was a protest for Palestine at Tilbury docks from 5.30am on Friday morning. It was part of an international day of action taking place at more than 100 ports across the world. In many places dockers took strike action against genocide, declaring 'dockers don't work for war'. All French ports were closed by the strikes and protests.
In Tilbury, we had dozens of conversations with dockers who very receptive to our leaflet and many took palestine pins. Some said they will demand a branch meeting to discuss joining the international coalition.
#palestine #freepalestine #dockersdontworkforwar
Following the protest at the port, we marched through Tilbury Town. Opposition to war and social cuts is beginning to coalesce into a wider movement.

I'm just glad I don't live in a dictatorship but a free democracy where every few years I can vote for a different banker or lawyer or landlord that represents the vast network of powerful corporate interests that controls every aspect of my life from cradle to grave

Perhaps the most stark and revealing (accidental?) admission in the David Bell 'antisemitism in UK schools report. Antisemitic attitudes aren't increasing, only anti-Israel ones are. That's what most of this is about.

Spiked Magazine (where James writes) recently changed its name from "Living Marxism" and before becoming far right swore allegiance to the Revolutionary Communist party. A ridiculous group of clowns who lost a libel suit to ITN over their denial of the Bosnian genocide.

several independent bookshops in the North of Ireland including No Alibis in Belfast and Bridge Books (@BridgeBooksDro1) are continuing to source and sell Sally Rooney’s books because they stand on the right side of history and not with the regressive, authoritarian laws and legislation of the British state
they are able to do this because the North has dual access to both UK and EU markets (thanks Brexit) and can order books through Irish distributors (Argosy etc) meaning that they are technically operating outside UK jurisdiction (any revenue made off Sally’s books in this case would be Irish revenue / sales)
so hypothetically, if there was an owner of an independent bookshop in Britain who wants to put two fingers up to the British government and this ridiculous law, you could do what the bookshops here are doing and source Sally’s books through those same Irish distributors…
just a thought…
and sure if you’d like to tag your local bookshop below / share this post, and if they want or need advice or more clarity about this… I know a guy, that’s all I’m saying
I did sense final season vibes, but still a shock to hear the announcement on the work commute this morning. Very sad to see it go.
