A tendency among non-ML marxists I find a bit goofy is the insistence on "socialism" & "communism" being completely synonymous because Marx used them interchangeably instead of using the fact we have two terms to demarcate some concrete nuance like lower/higher-phase sublation.

I think all MLs who adhere to this definition of socialism/communism referring to the lower/higher phases of maturity in the same process do so because of its usefulness, but the opponents of MLism typically treat this as some kind of knowledge gap which proves their superiority.

Hence why I find it goofy, some people really treat the act of memorizing the argument of "socialism & communism are synonyms" as some kind of achievement that proves they are good marxists when in truth their flippant dismissal of a more rigorous definition implies the opposite.

People respond to this with "Thats the point" but the movie making Chani into an insert for "the point" that Paul = bad by having her be mysteriously woke & scowling at him the whole time is far less interesting than the original story & makes their relationship feel inauthentic.

Just rewatched Dune and MAN, I forgot how much of a drag Chani is. Just scene after scene of pouting and scowling while Paul unites her people and heroically leads them to victory over the outworlders that have plagued them for centuries. Truly the wettest of blankets.
