Had a very enjoyable day at Rye Harbour Nature reserve yesterday. Seeing 14 species of wader and the 3 species of terns getting ready to nest. Also great to see the black-headed gulls starting to raise their young, close in front of Parks hide.

Give this a big RT if you support the decision by the Anchor Inn in Exebridge to no longer host the Quantock Staghounds.
The more businesses that turn their backs on hunting the better!

🦋Introducing the Long-Tailed Blue; a new butterfly species to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, discovered by our Ranger, Matt. It’s an exotic migrant from the Mediterranean, but this one was spotted by the Harbour Farm side of the reserve🦋

Fabulous views late afternoon of 2 Roseate Terns from Crittall Hide with @LeyshonOwen @ColinTurley3 @ryeharbour_NR
The Wednesday club was running late this week.
Just a short video of some of the sandwich terns, right close in front of crittall hide at Rye harbour yesterday afternoon with Martin and Owen. The noise is brilliant to hear and that was before 2 Roseate terns landed with them. Also see common and Little terns feeding young .
Nice to see plenty of Tern chicks at Rye harbour today with at least 90 common tern chicks, 58 sandwich tern chicks, & 10 little tern chicks. Backed up by 233 B H gull chicks. Plus the usual breeding waders as well.

Thank-you to our volunteer stuartconway.com/ who we supervised flying at 350 feet to get these superb images of the colony without disturbing them.

The colony at Ternery Pool has settled where they cannot easily be viewed and we had estimated 50 pairs.
But a better view by a drone has revealed 78 pairs!
In close up - there are 2 Black-headed gulls, 3 Mediterranean Gulls at the top and 18 Sandwich Terns sitting on nests.

Monitoring our wildlife is an important part of our work, but some species are so difficult to count.
The Sandwich Tern population has been hit hard by Bird Flu throughout its range so getting an accurate count of breeding numbers is now a higher priority.

We didn't have parties to "boost morale"
We didn't have quiz nights
We didn't have champagne
We watched our colleagues die though
We were STEEPED in death
We kept going
We had to
We kept on
So don't you DARE say your parties were "necessary" @borisjohnson
You make me sick.
