It's officially McDonald's Halloween Pail season! Which of the classic lineups was your favorite: 1985/86/87 (all pumpkins), 1989 (first witch and ghost) or 1990 (glow-in-the-dark ghost, neon witch and pumpkin)? I'm team 89 all the way, but all of these are legendary.

1] This week, The New York Times took a look at “How Supermarkets Became Protein-Maxed” and in pursuit of that story, reached out to me for some historical perspective and insight. I presented a case study on the many ways Doritos has chased health, diet and lifestyle trends…

…over the decades, providing some historical context for how we arrived at where we are today. I was able to present half a dozen fascinating and colorful examples of Doritos responding to the trends of the moment, spanning nearly sixty years of the brand’s history. Fun stuff!

Shortly after his debut, select McDonald's locations used a MAC TONIGHT FRENCH FRY CONTAINER for orders after 4PM. One of the rarest and coolest pieces of McDonald's packaging there is. (1987)

Someone in the UK just found an old Mars bar from 1991 and compared it to one from today. I did better in 2012 when I compared 1980 Mars brand bars (and Reese’s) to then-contemporary offerings. Perceived shrinkflation wasn’t real then - but is it now? collectingcandy.com/wordpres…

Marvel Comics is moving their offices from NYC to LA. 32 years ago, I moved here with the dream of working in comics. I was ridiculously lucky to do so. Though I’ve long been divorced from Marvel - and the iconic NYC offices I worked in are long gone, this makes me sad.
In 1991 I went up to the Marvel offices and it was the most magical place I have ever been. Stan was there. Editors. Artists. Outside the windows I saw the Empire State Building And a bullpen full of wonderful talented people working hard. Happy people doing something they loved. It was a site to behold for sure. I picked up work from an editor and have not stopped making comics since then.

1] There’s a big news story going around right now about Mars formulating a special all-naturally-colored M&M’s assortment. And it should be a big story, in light of the more conservative MAHA movement and the more longstanding progressive “real ingredient” movement, both of…

3]…they were perfectly fine. What I LOVED about them was that they were stamped with a BLACK “M”, which is how M&M’s were originally stamped back in the early 50s. So… naturally-colored M&M’s might be breaking news, but it’s also kind of old news. 🤔😉 #candyhistory
