It’s sounding like Wilks has been spending a lot of time in that DB room. All the crazy messaging around the very obvious elephant in the room. The DB coaches not getting it done man and WE ALL ALREADY KNEW THIS.

The hiring of Steve Wilks may be a desperate measure to improve the Commanders. But his involvement with the secondary also says a lot about what’s been missing from that room. Here’s what a few Commanders DBs told me today:

I’m good with Adam Peters arms. It’s been 2 years for him. From what I heard the Coach was selected by a committee of people and not just him. If Quinn wasn’t a moron. The team would be at worst…3-3 right now. I think this roster has more talent than what the coaches are getting out of it. #RaiseHail

This is rough. Nobody in our org is on the same page. Peters can't draft, Quinn is a "defensive head coach" who now has 2 defensive coordinators, and our OC is 12 years old.

AP will get more than just another year. Ryan Poles was 3-13, 7-10, and 5-12 his first three years with the Bears.

Adam Peters is going to get another year (we will continue to debate this the remainder of the season & offseason) Quinn is just a desperate coach trying any & everything to keep his gig. I get it but the ship may have too many holes in it at this point to make it to landfall

I don’t see why Daronte would want to remain in Washington if they don’t hire B Flo next year. That man was set up to fail by DQ and AP & Co. allowed it to happen. If I’m Daronte, I’m bailing the minute Flores calls me back to work for him again unless AP or the new HC gives me more responsibilities

The coaching staff outside of Daronte Jones still can’t teach the defense 10 months later, so they brought in Steve Wilks to β€œhelp” Week 6 of the season, who also doesn’t know Daronte Jones’ defense in the slightest lol

Might as well fire the DB coaches. Because imo this is what's really causing so many issues on defense and why Wilks was brought in. But as many have already stated. DQ is a defensive HC, why can't he step in to help his side of the ball? smh

Here's my sense of the Steve Wilks situation: * Daronte Jones sought extra help on his staff back this summer. * Why Wilks? Obviously experienced as a former HC/4-time DC. Also, he has a background coaching DBs. Same with Jones. I'd expect one of them to focus more on that room. * This has nothing to do with Quinn or Jones' job status or primary responsibilities * As for the apparent change in Wilks' availability, since we were told, he'd be around early in a game week and then go back to his duties at App St. (his alma mater). Now he's expected to be with the team for SNF. Not a weekly expectation at this point, but the situation is fluid. * Why didn't they tell us about the addition in real time (Wilks was around for the 49ers game)? Best guess is they probably would have, if not for the end-of-game gaffe heard 'round the world right as he was joining. The narratives about his addition are all over the place now. Imagine if announced 24 hours after tying the Giants.

That is all I’m saying. We aren’t going to call Oweh low IQ. Played in very disciplined systems. We also have a few guys from Spags system with the Chiefs. Chaisson from that defensive system with the Patriots. This FA class came from winning teams and organizations.

Odafe Oweh has come from two defensive programs with extremely high levels of structure. His statement tells us a lot. #Raisehail tho

I get its your job to tell the ppl what’s going on but that bs @BenStandig Maybe Oweh and Fans have the wrong perspective on why he was brought here because he has never been tasked to be the β€œsack guy” in this defense that was pushed by fans but if you look at his paperwork he’s here to be a dominant force in the run game and create pressures on the QB
