On the occasion of the publication of The Book of Colour Concepts (@TASCHEN) I was invited to pick five of the best books on colour for the May issue of @TheArtNewspaper . Historical books not included, it was nonetheless a tough call. Guess who is on the list?

"Colors are not possessions; they are the intimate revelations of an energy field... deep, resonant mysteries with boundless subjectivity... Our lives, when we pay attention to light, compel us to empathy with color." Beautiful read: themarginalian.org/2021/06/0…

#WarburgWednesday So what do the colourful stickers mean on the spines of some of our books? They are the remains of a colour-coded classification system once in use in the Library. Each colour equals a different letter.

As an @RCA_Writing MA student many years ago, a tour of the Colour Reference Library sparked my research on 'Werner's Nomenclature of Colours' (1814). Glad to see it still taking pride of place in the collection, alongside Mary Gartside's impressionistic colour blots.
Haven't hosted a group visit in >3yrs (blame Covid) so delighted to welcome 22 thoughtful graphic design students from @UWEBristol earlier this week.

We have been using primary colours to explore all the different tones that can be made inspired by Mary Gartside - moving children’s thinking beyond “red and yellow makes orange” and opening their eyes to the multitude of different ways that these three colours can be combined.
