One of the promises we made when building @Commit_Boost was to help ready the out-of-protocol infrastructure during hard forks. Here we are, ready to rumble.
1/ Glamsterdam is coming to Hoodi next Monday and every validator will have to upgrade their software. Commit-Boost is fully ready for Hoodi testing. With that in mind, hereβs a guide and three questions you should be asking yourself. π§΅

4/ What should I configure?
ePBS gives you a lot of knobs, and each client ships with different defaults. Check out our node operator guide above which has more details. πΊοΈ
3/ Am I going to cap my bids?
You can configure how much or how little trust you put into builder bids with risk/reward tradeoffs. π°βοΈ
2/ Where should I get bids?
Your node will receive bids over peer-to-peer by default. You decide which relays to connect to and whether to use a sidecar. For benefits of sidecars, check out our post here: π»Β xitter.cf/Commit_Boost/status/20β¦
We have been getting a bunch of questions on Commit-Boost and ePBS. Commit-Boost is here to stay. And, generally out-of-protocol infra will continue to complement the block building supply chain post-ePBS. Stay tuned for more updates. π»

From testing to mainnet: we worked with @Commit_Boost on bid streaming ahead of the v0.11.0 release and continue to run it across our Ethereum staking operations.
Bids now arrive throughout the slot over one open connection, bringing:
β More reliable delivery and fewer missed slots
β More competition for block bids
β Timing that adapts to real-time latency

Bid streams allow proposers to receive multiple fast bids per block.
This is a notable improvement on the round-trip request proposers currently send to get bids.
As a result bids are delivered more reliably, which means fewer missed slots & better blocks. It's "Kaizen"!

From Hoodi testing to mainnet. Good to see this one ship!
We tested bid streaming and shared feedback with @Commit_Boost during development.
Proposers can now receive multiple bids over a streaming connection during their slot. Congrats to the team! π

Today, when it's your turn to propose a block π, your validator asks the relay or MPBC Operator for a single bid. With bid streaming, you open a streaming connection during your slot, and they push multiple bids to you throughout the slot.
Bid streaming improves the reliability of bid delivery, which helps both validators and Ethereum:
- Receiving more bids per connection is strictly more robust than HTTP
- MPBC Operators get predictable deadlines and a way to estimate round-trip times
- More reliable bid delivery reduces validator risk and means fewer missed slots and fuller blocks
How does it work?
- Bids arrive throughout the slot instead of a single bid at the end
- Once the connection is open, each new bid arrives faster, with no round trip that wastes time in the slot
- Latency isn't static. With bid streaming, the MPBC Operator can measure your connection's latency and adjust its timing in real time
- If the stream handshake fails, Commit-Boost falls back to a normal request, so it only ever adds
After working with proposers and incorporating feedback, Commit-Boost users can now be "peaked and tuned" with bid streaming. This upgrade, supported by MPBC Operators, brings improved stability, increased competition for block bids, and more robustness to Ethereum. Details π

Out-of-protocol infra helped birth ePBS. It's here to stay and the trustless floor ePBS brings only allows it to flourish more. Commit-Boost will keep shipping!

Don't let others tell you otherwise. Even the core devs driving most of ePBS agree with this post. Commit-Boost is here to stay. Out-of-protocol will still have its place.
