Housing is expensive because of the collective chase to profit from land values. What if we used some of that value to fund basic income and fix housing at the same time? We presented our case at BIEN Congress in Toronto: make the problem help pay for the solution. youtube.com/watch?v=l_5mxFFJ…

Congrats to Nate Erskine-Smith, newly elected City Councillor for Toronto’s Ward 19 Beaches-East York. Here’s Nate in conversation with Mark Carney on AI, jobs, and the supports workers will need. @beynate

The idea of basic income first began as a common wealth dividend β€” a way to share the value of land, which no individual created. It's also how we share the proceeds of AIs trained on humanity's work.

Congrats @AlvinTedjo on being elected as Mississauga's new mayor. We've been supporting him since his first run in 2020 (when we campaigned on basic income together) and have seen him become a great leader and beloved councillor. Alvin wishing you the best.

"BC assessment authority was intentionally set up in the '70s to eventually do land value tax. That was the whole point" β€” Paul Finch, President of BC General Employees' Union LVT can help us invest in housing and transit in a way that builds voter support.

The Fraser Institute estimated that the AB Heritage Fund would be 15 times larger if it was managed similarly to Alaska's. The key idea is that paying citizens dividends gives them a sense of co-ownership, tying their net worths to the fund's fiscal rules and performance.

Adam Smith, the godfather of capitalism, strongly believed that we should tax land, not workers. Why tax what people have earned? We should tax what people have not earned. That would encourage more housing and make our economy work better.

Basic income is a top issue this BC election. Almost half of British Columbians have a Green candidate who signed our pledge to work towards guaranteed basic income if elected. This would be a generational investment in BC's future.

We asked every BC election candidate where they stand on income security. Almost half of British Columbians have a candidate on their ballot who signed our pledge to work towards a guaranteed basic income in BC if elected. This is the investment BC's future needs.

Canada should have a sovereign wealth fund that pays dividends to all and invests for future generations. It's how we leverage our nation's advantages in natural resources, technology, and finance to build common wealth for all Canadians.

What happens when work is no longer the main way people earn an income? At BIEN Congress 2026, our own Ken Yang laid out a roadmap for universal economic security in the post-AI economy. Basic income is the bridge, to broad ownership as the destination. youtube.com/watch?v=ukl9dDKg…

Land value is publicly created. Taking some of that to pay us dividends gives everyone a stake in the success of our economy.

At BIEN Congress in Toronto, I presented a roadmap for building true, enduring universal economic security in the post-AI age. Cash transfers are the bridge, towards broad capital ownership as the destination -- including private, public, and common wealth that pays dividends and decentralizes stakes in the wealth generated by nature and the inevitable automation boom. This is how we steer the AI convo from doom and pessimism towards optimism and abundance. Here's my full talk, Labour's Last Stand: youtube.com/watch?v=ukl9dDKg…

BREAKING: Anthropic is putting 5% of its shares into a Public Benefit Fund, with more added as the company grows. It could make "direct distributions to specific populations." Not UBI. But AI companies expect massive wealth and disruption, and cash transfers are on the table.

One of the most popular & successful programs of all time: Alaska's universal dividend paid to all residents every year. They agreed that natural resources are the common wealth of the people and should benefit all current & future generations. Canada should learn from this.

It's completely absurd that a city like Toronto has so much low-density housing around transit. The incentives are all backwards. It should be more profitable, not less, to build & maintain homes than to hold land underused.
