LiveWorkPlay has been nominated for "Best Non Profit Organization" in Faces Magazine’s 2024 Ottawa Awards! This is a straightfoward popularity contest, where supporters can cast a vote on a daily basis. You can vote here facesmagazine.secondstreetap… please note that you must scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to see where to vote for LiveWorkPlay. We appreciate any and all votes, and we appreciate the nomination as well, but it will likely take a lot of people voting every day for us to win, and that's not important. What is important is to be appreciated and respected by the members of our community who know us and believe in our mission of an included life for people with intellectual disabilties and autistic persons in the Ottawa community! #ottcity #ottnews – at Ottawa, Ontario

What a day at the SOAR Student Leadership Conference @Carleton_U @SLRavens a huge turnout of students on a Saturday morning to see the keynote by the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson and then breakout sessions all morning and afternoon that included @LiveWorkPlay's own Keenan Wellar and Batoul Auf, as well as an information table hosted by members of our community team, Maggie Dimock and Sydney Whitmore, who were in great company next to our good friends from @VolunteerOttawa ! – at Ottawa, Ontario

Yesterday (January 17, 2024) LiveWorkPlay was invited to present our Employment Supports Model at an online event with the Vanguard Young Professionals Network at Public Services and Procurement Canada | Services publics et Approvisionnement Canada (PSPC) which was also attended by representatives from the Accessibility Office. It was a huge turnout of more than 125 attendees! Our inclusive employment specialists Joëlle Perrier and Jean-Claude Taylor-Cline were joined by Vanguard employee Véronique Diloreto, who is coming up on her six-month work anniversary. Véronique shared some of the keys to succes, including early assistance from LiveWorkPlay to navigate the onboarding process, and small adaptations from her colleagues and supervisors that helped her learn new skills and make meaningful contributions to the team. She is one of many individuals who are breaking new ground in the federal public service, doing exciting work in event planning and delivery. Véronique is at a stage where she is now contributing her own ideas towards events that will advance the goals of Vanguard and the PSPC. Congratulations! – at Ottawa, Ontario

Congratulations to Jennifer Harris who has just returned from taking her first international flight on her own! Although she traveled by herself to and from Toronto many years ago, this was a new and bigger adventure! Jenn reports that she experienced no significant issues with mobility barriers or otherwise navigating the airports. She had some long lines to deal with and a bit of a wait due to the weather, but nothing unexpected. Jenn was visiting her brother Tim who works as a teacher in Costa Rica. They had all sorts of fun, including some art projects and touring around San José, the capital city of Costa Rica, which is about the size of pre-amalgamation Ottawa, at about 350,000 people. She did get a bit of help from her parents with a ride from Ottawa to the airport in Montreal, which meant she had a direct flight on Air Canada. Way to go Jennifer! – at Ottawa, Ontario

Congratulations Rebecca Coxon! As both leaders and learners in championing inclusive communities, the LiveWorkPlay team appreciates your work in leading our efforts with the #50_30Challenge | #defi50_30 including your completion of these formal training opportunities! Learn more about the 50-30 Challenge 50-30challenge.ca/ From Rebecca's post on LinkedIn: I’m proud to share that I’ve obtained a new certification: Inclusive Leadership [Non-Profit Sector] from Sheridan College and Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan). Why EDI? Fostering an inclusive environment isn't just a checkbox - it's a commitment to creating a workplace where EVERY voice is heard and EVERY individual feels valued. My learning experience has been eye-opening. From understanding unconscious biases to exploring strategies for building more equitable policies, this certification equips me with the tools to champion positive change. Let's continue to celebrate our differences and build bridges that connect us all! #EDICertification #InclusionMatters #DiversityandInclusion #EquityAtWork #Empowerment #ProfessionalGrowth #ChampionChange – at Ottawa, Ontario

This is incredibly inspiring. Go Spain! Vamos Mar Galcerán! It is not inspiring because a person with Down syndrome is doing an important job that other people do, it is inspiring because a population of citizens in Spain valued her ability to do the job and elected her - despite many naysayers who continue to doubt her competence for no reason other than her disability. This inspires us to think what CANADIANS can do to support inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities and autistic persons here in our own country - to support employment in every sector, including representation in politics. theguardian.com/world/2024/j… – at Ottawa, Ontario
