Variable science communication cultures and different degree of willingess to participate among the countries were identified, along with the difficulty in the tracing of primary sources from which citizens obtain science information.

Through five citizen consultations in which 497 Europeans participated, citizens debated four topics of social and scientific relevance: climate change, vaccines, genetically modified organisms and the use of complementary and alternative medicines.
