When you’re trying to take the time to set up some pretty shots of your sketch but the cat wants in on the action…

Writing a book is entirely personal, but publishing books is a weird situation where personal and commercial collide. For today's #DATips, we're going to look at personal taste and the role it plays when we look at submissions
Is there anything wrong with querying agents on a Sunday? They'll just get it on Monday right? Am I massively overthinking the etiquette here? #WritingCommmunity #querying
Doing the character design for Nain & Taid, going back in time to do their wedding picture, knowing he's no longer with us 🥲 This book has been a journey & I've definitely been inspired by a mix of people and lots of my own childhood memories

If you follow my stories you would of seen me revising some of my old sketchbooks looking for some inspiration for my house dragon character for a picture book pitch I'm working on. I sketched some quick ideas out, I knew I wanted something that would look really silly

Even if you don't love it can I get a standing ovation please? This was the most challenging piece I've done to date! I will do close-ups of details soon, like the little house dragon on the chimney, the hall of pets past & the pirate treasure in the attic!

Revisiting some of my favourite character doodles for inspiration. I always like to fill the background world with magical creatures in my stories. I was obsessed with that growing up, the idea that just behind a tree could easily be a dragon #kidlit #kidlitart
I'm always trying to build and improve the representation in my illustrations. I know how important it is for my son when he sees someone else with a glucose monitor or pump (Like the little girl doing a cartwheel). #kidlit #kidlitart #kidlitartist #childrensbooks
I have some availability right now so if you’re looking for an illustrator drop me a message and let’s chat! In the meantime I’m working on a couple of new portfolio pieces. How adorable is this little class in full play?

Mickey doesn’t really care how hard I’m trying to work. Apparently it’s cuddle o’clock. Anyone else’s cat this demanding?

Nothing to see here, just sniffing a dipstick to edit my manuscript #amwriting
For portfolio day I thought I would post a piece about Seren, AKA The Star Girl. This is from one of my own stories 📷

Any PB author-illustrators looking for critique partners or groups, or can recommend any with a me-shaped space? #picturebooks #WritingCommunity #writingchat #kidsbooks
Back to the picture books while my agent submissions are out for my MG graphic novel 😬 #amquerying #writerscommunity #scbwi

The first draft is just you telling yourself the story.

This week I learned that there were 8 main species of bear. This is what I'm now calling a thinking sketch. This consists of me doodling while I think.
