In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here. A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy. So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years. The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip. I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform. Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post. kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…

When a doctor says "it's probably nothing," ask six words: "How can we be more sure?" It's your team against cancer, not you vs your doctor. Support ➡️ Giving.CU.EDU/CrackingCancer youtu.be/3ytEkvVjRQw

50% of women have dense breast tissue, which can only be diagnosed via mammogram. Because dense tissue and cancer appear white on scans, tumors can be hidden. Ask your doctor about your density and imaging options. Support ➡️ Giving.CU.EDU/CrackingCancer youtu.be/0Gao8hh8lzI

Staying silent about family health history puts future generations at risk. Genetic mutations like BRCA can pass down. Breaking the stigma around cancer conversations can empower young adults to advocate early. Support ➡️ Giving.CU.EDU/CrackingCancer youtu.be/0Gao8hh8lzI

The average female breast cancer risk is 1 in 8 but a free online Tyrer-Cuzick score can calculate your risk. Scoring ≥20% puts you in the high-risk tier, which can unlock coverage for surveillance imaging like MRIs. Support ➡️ Giving.CU.EDU/CrackingCancer youtu.be/0Gao8hh8lzI

Breast cancer doesn't always present as a lump—skin dimpling and pulling are critical signs. Don't forget that paternal family history matters too: BRCA mutations and male breast cancer are key risk factors. Support ➡️ Giving.CU.EDU/CrackingCancer youtu.be/0Gao8hh8lzI

In extreme lab models, high glucose levels can harden a tumor's extracellular matrix and speed up cell division. But extreme lab setups rarely translate to real human physiology. Support ➡️ Giving.CU.EDU/CrackingCancer youtu.be/cuKfGub-0Vc

If blood sugar directly drove tumor growth, cancers could shrink overnight and surge after meals. Geographical studies also show growth isn't solely dictated by local dietary intake. Tumor biology is far more complex. Support ➡️ Giving.CU.EDU/CrackingCancer youtu.be/cuKfGub-0Vc

The "sugar feeds cancer" myth stems from the Warburg Effect: cancers rapidly process glucose for energy rather than using oxygen efficiently. Cutting dietary sugar won't starve a tumor—but it may starve your body. Support ➡️ Giving.CU.EDU/CrackingCancer youtu.be/cuKfGub-0Vc
