Big thanks to @Cropnuts for sap analysis on the nutrition trials. Great to be at the start at least of a long journey to develop local guidelines for our crops.

This month's 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝑨𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒚 𝑵𝒆𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓 is out!
With good rain around there is a lot of potential in maize crops, so pushing them to reach their potential makes a lot of sense.

Good to do some spraying and topdressing today, always see and learn so much by walking through every plot and having thinking time.

Sap testing is definitely highlighting a big drop in magnesium levels in the older leaves.
I always start seeing faint magnesium deficiency at this time of year, but leaf tissue testing never quite seems to flag it up. I feel we are about to learn stacks from sap testing....

Maize after just one year of maize on the left, vs after sunflowers & peas last year on the right. No amount of biostimulant or chemical will substitute for a solid rotation.

Seed maize crop looking promising. A bit more Fall Armyworm pressure than I had expected, but the most recently emerged 3-4 leaves are relatively untouched which is where it matters, not the historic damage that catches your eye.

That's quite some nodulation on the Chickpeas! Really quite intrigued to deep N test across the various pulses in this field after harvest.

With conservation agriculture we can feed Kenya on 300 mm of rain..but we need real farmers to do it. Real farmers are trained and are knowledge driven. Ni hayo tu.

As we strive to find innovative solutions to the rising cost of living, we must focus on our food production and food system policies. Reading in @TheStarKenya of experts linking low soil testing for poor crop yields. We must rectify this @Cropnuts @ambuko @kilimoKE.
