We name constellations of stars instead of dandelions because one seems permanent to us.
Seems.
There, the hunter stands tall with a shining belt.
Here, the dandelions are a running elk, gold against an emerald sky.
Both are nature. Both fleeting.
As real as we can make them.

Here it is! The cover for my next horror novel, Children of the Wrong Heaven.
A mommy support group becomes convinced their children are aliens. This deeply upsets the townsfolk around them…and also the aliens.

What are you all reading? I had another excellent month. I finished the Strange Animals by @CryptoNature + Abbott by Saladin Ahmed. I’m still reading Dark Water Daughter by @hannah_m_long (really good but I’m savoring it) + I recently started To Clutch a Razor by Veronica Roth.

Both work and play take effort.
Both work and play require time
and space.
The difference is that my idea of
work is haunted by a fear of
imperfection, while play feels hard
to get wrong.

I was at the movies tonight and a very interesting thing happened to me... I was in the bathroom before the movie and an older woman approached me. She asked how long I'd been using a cane, and I told her almost 10 years. She paused and then said, "...was it hard?" (1/5)

I'm tired. The thunder is murmuring outside. Time for a poem.

ALT Little Red Wolf Leslie J. Anderson Her mother said fold your ears, keep your nose in your hood, look down when you walk, tuck your hands under the basket. She did all these things. She forgot her voice. Her fur itched. The wool was thick and hot. When she opened the door, there were the eyes, the teeth, the smell of wet fur and earth. She said I know you, and the joy was as great as the fear.
