There is no life outside doing fun with agents
There’s 100% a kind of mania you can get into with coding agents, where it feels like you’re getting a lot done and working all the time but nothing is really happening. I think it's often a form of avoidance of something else in life.

The best mental model for life isn’t chess or go. It’s poker. You get dealt a hand. You make the best hand. Sometimes you win. Make the best chances. And play and bluff against other people and the dealer. Life is a series of bets.

You don’t need less screen time. You need more. But it needs to be around creating or curating. Because screen time is a portal to the internet, it allows you to access the deepest recesses of the greatest minds on the planet. If all you do is doomscroll. That’s a skill issue.

very weird thing happening rn technical people are sad, they think their skills are now useless non-technical people are desperately wishing they were more technical so they could use agents better

Some of the smartest people you’ll meet are quietly starving. Not for food. For real conversation. So they spend Friday nights with Montaigne, Seneca, and a guy who died in 1890, because the dead are the only ones who’ll go that deep. If you’ve found someone who’ll talk about the big stuff with you, don’t let them go.

Stop whatever you’re doing and go all in on AI. This is one of those moves you’ll thank God for in a few years. AI is not temporary. We’re going through serious changes to the human condition. This is about survival. Get to work. Understand that shit. It’s still early.

Writing what you actually think is terrifying. Anyone can summarize a podcast or repackage consensus thought. But typing the sentence that might make your old coworkers squint, your mom worry, and three subscribers leave? Most people spend their whole lives waiting for a “better" moment to do that. There isn’t one. Hit publish anyway.

Deep-seated malevolence rooted in the sense of injury is *the* defining feature of Eastern European moral, economic, and political landscape Post-Soviets are no dumber than their neighbours behind the wall. But they are unbelievably malevolent -> hence, most of 'crazy' stuff

Yes, but conservative intellectual sounds like oxymoron Liberalism/communism are aristocratic, noble Conservatism is prolish, churlish Hence, the very notion of a conservative intellectual already contains an element of contradiction

He’s meant to be a conservative intellectual though? I agree negative polarisation is a very powerful force, of course.

And I'm bad in surviving victory 🥲
"I'm a great survivor, but a bad winner." - early stage founder. There's a massive difference between survival mindset vs a winning one, and it will impact your company & career. Survival is essential, but you have to be able to shift gears. drgurner.substack.com/p/are-…

Hard to swallow pill The level of life of Soviet nomenklatura was actually absurdly low, when you consider how much power and resources it had in its hands. 1990s brought some reasonable correction in that regard, balancing it all out

"american advice to do lot of problems here in czechia :) ❤️🤷‍♂️"
My advice to anyone starting out: Develop a very strong opinion about yourself. Know exactly who you are & who you are not. If you don't, random people will try to tell you who you are, and you might just start believing them.

How to prognose the future: False: imagine something credible, believable, sensible Correct: imagine something so ridiculous, that no sci fi publisher would accept it for publication E.g. “first robotized war in history, screamers-style will be fought by Russia vs Ukraine”
One reason why scifi writers are almost uniformly terrible with politics and societal dynamics overall is they would 100% have like the UN Secretary General or a committee of experts or whatever playing this role in an analogous scenario. When in reality... Oops!
