I have gambled with real money once in my life. It was a game of Texas hold 'em. I won, took my earnings (which was a few hundred bucks) and never gambled with money again.
Gambling is BAD, and nothing good can come from involving yourself in it. And I don't just mean placing bets. I mean getting into bed with the people who take them. The house always wins. That's mathematics, and its the God's honest truth. Which brings me to the people who promote this garbage. If you're a celebrity, influencer, or former professional athlete taking money to encourage people to gamble, you're lending your credibility to an industry that makes its money when those people lose. You may not be doing anything illegal. You may even genuinely believe in what you're promoting. Don't act surprised when people start questioning your integrity, especially when allegations of deceptive marketing start flying. I don't know whether the allegations involving FanDuel and CodyBrownBets are true, but they illustrate exactly why I have such contempt for this industry. You don't have to place a bet to lose something valuable to gambling. Sometimes all you have to wager is your reputation. Just associating yourself with it is enough to ruin yourself in many people's eyes, like mine.

I'm just a nobody on X and the support I have received on this post is appreciated beyond words. I expected not many to see this post, but somehow people found this post and shared their empathy with me. It's also sad to see the number of people that have been in the same shoes I am walking in now. Some of been able to get back in the industry and many others were forced into something new. I have severance, about five months worth, but the clock is ticking for me. I will lose my medical insurance coverage soon and COBRA is an expense we cannot afford at this time. There is the marketplace, but it's going to be difficult to find the coverage my family needs. My daughter is currently going through chemo, with a radiological procedure in a few months. Thankfully it's not cancer, but her condition has treatments that are very much similar to cancer treatment. I know I can be back on my feet again, but I know it's going to take time, which the severance helps, but the lack of coverage is the real ticking clock. I just want to say the support and comments have given me the vigor to hit the pavement and see if I can find a new, and hopefully, better job.
Got laid off today. As a white American male, my career in tech is officially over. 20 years; it was a good run.

I have also received word from upper management that there was a very intense fight to keep me, due to my performance and knowledge, but in the end the "evolving market conditions" won out.

Also, since people have asked. No, I am not a Microsoft employee. I worked for one of the big credit reporting agencies.

I don't mind egg nog. I don't really seek it out though. My dad loved egg nog. He also liked mixing a bowl of Jell-O pistachio pudding and drinking it before it set.
War is on the horizon. Are you ready?

Why is it so hard to understand the simple fact; Andromeda, Anthem, and Veilguard did not turn a profit. If you don't turn a profit, you can't afford to stay open. Case closed.
Unsurprisingly... a firestorm of hateful chud responses in here. I have no skin in the obsessive anti-woke culture war. Of course they all assume that. I actually prefer hot, superhero type characters most of the time. I know it's a lot of trolls obviously, but... Regardless, it's a part of the discussion. Facts and matter. We don't know the full story yet. Maybe Dragon Age Veilguard's sales and player reception was purely why BioWare lost EA's funding. (I didn't really even play that game or spend my time on social platforms propping it up, as the chuds might assume.) But there's a huge difference between assuming why BioWare got shuttered and knowing the facts. Correlation isn't causation. There isn't any credible reporting that's simply what happened here. Also -- laughable how many of these haters are willingly praising studio closures by a BILLION-DOLLAR CORPORATION (see also: Xbox). In EA's statement, they effectively tell you: they are not in the RPG business. That's not what they say, but they describe how they are a ball and gun game company. "Deepen Our Core" as they describe it. How that's their focus, only with some action-adventure and lifestyle games otherwise. From a emotionless corporate level -- they are just tightening the portfolio and vision. Dropping a line item in the budget. That's the easiest short-term explanation, along with their new Saud investors' push for changes. Yes, it goes without saying BioWare has had troubles for many years. We know EA inflicted pain there as well, jerking the studio back and forth on things. But until we hear more about the next-gen Mass Effect project itself -- of which some staff worked on Mass Effect 1/2/3 -- we can't just assume Dragon Age's sales or perception is purely why BioWare was shut down.

Considering the fact that for nearly all counties, the fiscal impact of Amendment 3 is actually quite low. Most property tax income is commercial. Even counties where the amount of taxable land is low (e.g. Alachua county due to UF), Amendment 3 has a very small impact on total county revenue. These counties can find where to find savings in their budget, for example, 90k a year pay increases to public employees...
🚨Fl Sheriffs' Salary Jumps > $90,000 additional $$ a year. All 5 campaigning saying vote NO amendment 3. AI is 100% based on the old data adage of "garbage in, garbage out." However, to use AI as anything more than just an advanced Google search is a large hurdle for most people. The reason is, that the people who know how to effectively use AI, are terrible at explaining how to effectively use AI.
Unpopular opinion: your results with AI largely depend on how smart you are
