Upset District Cllr upset about allowances.
Compatible unitary authority covering half of Cumbria pays £420k pa in basic allowance (£8.4K x 50) - so double it = £840k
£840k < £1.7M (current spend)
And that’s on basic allowances alone.
£900k a year saving is not “bugger all”
Replying to @CumbriaFuture
And they forget to mention that councillor allowances in unitaries of similar size to Cumbria are about 50% higher than existing allowances, which means you end up saving bugger all.
Our consultation asks whether you would like:
1️⃣ A single unitary for Cumbria
2️⃣ Two Unitary authorities
🗳 An Elected Mayor
⛔️ No change

We might think 2️⃣ Two Unitaries and an 🗳Elected Mayor is the best option - but we want to ask the people of #Cumbria what they think.
