Rarely in recent Missouri politics and governance has a policy change failed as spectacularly as the return to state police control in the City of St. Louis. It's a boon for legal fees, and that's about it.

Mayor Cara Spencer just releasing statement on Chris Graville's resignation as the attorney for St. Louis Board of Police Commissioners: "For more than a year, St. Louis taxpayers have paid a county law firm to fight against the very city that pays its bills. Today that tab stands at over $1.2M. That money could have paid for officers, 911 call-takers, recreation centers, and street repairs. Instead it paid for legal strategy that was unsurprisingly dubious, given it was built upon a contract structured to reward conflict.
This moment should be a turning point. The Board’s next attorney must not see the City of St. Louis as an adversary to be defeated. I urge my fellow commissioners to proceed with caution. We cannot afford another year like this one."

Debt activists have been saying this for years. Cancellation is *GOOD* for the economy. Homeownership and credit scores rose for Americans who had their student debt cancelled. Things won't feel AFFORDABLE until debts are gone. Every Dem should call for full scale cancellation.
