The craziest thing about Wilt's 50-point season is that Frank McGuire was pushing the limits with no blueprint to follow. The idea was for Wilt to take up a huge share of the team's shots. Normally, with the pace of that era, the shots got spread out — teams shot so quickly that the ball moved around. Nobody funneled an offense through one star the way teams do today. That's why pace adjustments are flawed most of the time. Jerry West took about the same number of shots a game as a star does today, even with all those extra possessions. The game just wasn't slowed down enough to run everything through one player. McGuire decided to push Wilt to the limit because it maximized the offense. Aside from Arizin, his teammates were poor shooters — so Wilt took the shots, and everyone else saved their energy for defense. That was his formula for beating Boston. It was the correct approach for maximizing their title chances. But he was still pushing one man to extremes to do it. It's mind-blowing it ever happened.
Yes, the pace helped. Wilt's era had more possessions, and more possessions meant more shots to go around. But somebody still had to take them, grab those rebounds, and block those shots. Wilt attempted nearly 40 shots a night, every night, for 80 games — at 48.5 minutes a night — while shooting 50.6% in a league that shot 44.1%. Who else could physically sustain that shot volume? Kobe and Jordan are the immediate names that come to mind, and both talked about how exhausting that kind of volume was. West and Oscar were great, efficient scorers. Neither came close to that volume. Elgin was the closest, and he still wasn't close. Sustaining that for an entire season is the single greatest individual achievement in basketball history. Only one human being was ever capable of doing it.

No to Schumer and no to Jeffries. They've already tried to lead and failed. New leadership in the house and senate please.

Election Day should be a holiday and the day after should be a mandated half day in the workplace as well. Don’t make me work and don’t make me wake up the next day for my job after watching coverage all night.

Jaylen Brown says the 76ers are Tyrese Maxey’s team “Maxey’s been leading the way, 100%. He’s been here, this is his team. Him and Joel have been here for a while, so the mindset has been to compliment those guys. I’m finding my footing, but Maxey’s been leading the way for sure.” (h/t @Fullcourtpass )

Unearthed video: Bill Clinton praises the 2007 University of Michigan senior speaker, Abdul El-Sayed, on his commencement speech "I don't want to embarrass your senior speaker. But I wish every person in the world who believes that we are fated to have a clash of civilizations and cannot reach across the religious divides could've heard you speak today. I just wish every person in the world could've heard you speak today."
