Update: @ChmnMendelson has responded to CFO Glen Lee's letter that objected to the D.C. Council's plan to pull $150 million from reserves for the 2027 budget. "Use of local reserve funds to support appropriations... is a policy decision" the council can make, he writes.

The cuts happening at the Washington Post are a disgrace to journalism and an affront to truth-telling. I’m especially disappointed that the local news this region has relied upon has been gutted. My heart goes out to all those impacted.

A federal government shutdown will not shut down the DC Government.
DC will remain open, our students will be in class, parks will be clean, streets will be safe, trash will be picked up, and we will continue to function as a world-class city no matter what happens in Congress.

The Mayor's budget proposal includes disturbing rollbacks of the District's TANF program. I'm outraged that the Executive wants to cut benefits at a time when costs are rising & push people off the program using an arbitrary cut-off date. I'll be working to reverse these changes.

Mayor Bowser’s #DCBudget slashes DC’s safety net—gutting rental assistance, health care, and legal services. We call on the @councilofdc to reject these cuts and build a budget that isn't balanced on the backs of low-income families.
