This is what I keep trying to tell people.
Body Horror is extremely niche and no body horror film has ever cracked 100 million.
That changes with Clayface.

Man the more I see people talk about theatrical runs...
The more I realize these people literally just have no idea what they're talking about.
& Why is your post self contradictroy within the first 5 lines of text...
Whatever man, sure. Yea. I guess bro! You're so right!
Sorry, Claybros. It's over...
CLAYFACE has officially lost its second weekend to YOU CAN SEE EVERYTHING, dropping 57% to $10.4 MILLION domestically. But before anyone starts writing the DCU's obituary, that's actually not a terrible hold for an R-rated body horror movie.
For comparison, MORBIUS dropped 74%, KRAVEN THE HUNTER dropped 72%, and MADAME WEB dropped 61% in their second weekends. So CLAYFACE is actually holding up better than Sony's non-Venom villain movies. That's good news, even if its eventual theatrical profit is looking relatively modest.
And that's where I think Skydance needs to get smart. The movie is sitting around $83 million worldwide, and while it's still got some theatrical life left, I think its biggest opportunity might be on digital. Universal has been doing this for years, using theatrical releases to build awareness before putting movies on PVOD while they're still playing in theaters. They just did it with FORGOTTEN ISLAND.
If I were Skydance, I'd put CLAYFACE on digital THIS WEEK. Double dip while people are still talking about it. Let the theatrical run continue while giving audiences the opportunity to rent or buy it at home.
Because CLAYFACE doesn't need to be some massive box office sensation to make money. But sitting around waiting for the theatrical run to dry up before capitalizing on home video interest seems like leaving money on the table.
The movie's still got some life in it. Might as well squeeze every damn dollar out of it.
