I got him mad, who dares joke with my feelings...
His grades dropped. His friends stopped picking his calls. The girl he had been lying with told everyone he was unstable. One evening he came to my room and begged. He said he was going mad, that he could not think, that he needed me to tell him the truth about what I knew. I looked at him the way he used to look at me when he was pretending to be an angel, and I said, “You already know the truth. You just don’t like the way it tastes.”

He was a liar all along 🤦
First it was small thing, he said he was in the library when he was somewhere else. Then bigger ones. One night his phone rang while he was in the bathroom. I saw the name. When he came out I asked. He said it was his cousin. I checked later and it was a girl from another department. He swore it was nothing. I let it go because I wanted to believe him.
I did not become ashawo. I just stopped being the girl who absorbs lies and calls it love. In 200 level I learned that some angels only have wings when you are not looking at their feet. And when they lie, you do not have to scream. You just have to make sure they hear their own voice echo until it drives them mad. That wasn't ok for me, I had to made him very mad, that he started dancing around the streets without no drum.
That was Kunle. That was me.

The Angel Who Lied
After Femi, I told myself I was done. I entered 200 level with a new rule: no love, no attachment, no more “I will marry you.” I still prayed, but I no longer believed every sweet word. I became sharper. I stopped being the quiet good girl. I started going out more, dressing how I wanted, and learning how to use what I had without giving everything away. People said I had changed. They were right. I was no longer innocent, but I was not ashawo either. I just refused to be used the same way twice.
I started with his friends. Quietly. I showed two of them the messages, not all, just enough. I told them I was hurt but I still cared about him, so they should not tell him I knew. They started looking at him differently. Then I reached the girl. I sent her everything he had said about her to me, and everything he had said about me to her. She blocked him the same night and posted a long message on her status calling him a liar. People began to talk.
Next I went after his mind.
I would call him at odd hours and speak softly, like I still loved him. I would ask questions that made him explain himself. Every time he lied, I let him finish, then I would say something small that showed I knew more than he thought. I never shouted. I never fully exposed everything at once. I just kept him guessing. Some nights I would agree to see him, let him touch me, then pull away and ask about the girl. He started losing sleep. He began showing up at my hostel uninvited, eyes red, asking who I had been talking to. I would look at him calmly and say, “Why are you shaking? Did you do something?”

If not that these diabolic politicians we call our leaders, have gotten the people where they want them to be - divide and conquer; subject to poverty, insecurity and rule; why would a normal thinking Nigerian, see a Tinubu, and a Peter Obi, and vote for Tinubu?
Tell me pls! 🤦🏽♂️
