Elon doesn’t hire based on fancy degrees, years of experience at big companies, or impressive titles.
He looks for something much rarer and more valuable:
“I think it’s a good idea to hire for talent and drive and trustworthiness. I think goodness of heart is important. I’ve underweighted that at one point. So are they a good person, trustworthy, smart and talented, and hardworking? If so, you can add domain knowledge, but those fundamental traits, those fundamental properties, you cannot change.”
That’s the filter.
Talent, drive, trustworthiness, and goodness of heart come first.
Domain knowledge can be learned.
This is why Tesla, SpaceX, The Boring Company, Neuralink, and xAI have been able to move so fast and achieve what others thought was impossible — they hire exceptional people who actually care about the mission.

So they didn’t have to cancel Charlie’s UVU open air campus event 24-48 hours after he personally sent text messages to at least one member of his security team and others (including Andrew?) that said “They’re gonna kill me.”?
Andrew Kolvet says they had to make the very difficult decision to cancel Erika Kirk’s appearance yesterday because threats indicated she would have been assassinated.
The security team told Erika Kirk they could not guarantee her safety.
Kolvet says he is shaken to his core knowing that Erika Kirk’s children are one parent away from being orphans.
