Elections remain national, yet the conditions are increasingly set in Brussels 🇪🇺
This is not theory: The EU has by now done it often enough to call it a PLAYBOOK.

LAS ELECCIONES EN ESPAÑA, PREPARADAS CON LAS GRANDES TECNOLÓGICAS A PUERTA CERRADA. EXIGIMOS TRANSPARENCIA

SPAIN’S ELECTION PLANNED WITH BIG TECH BEHIND CLOSED DOORS - WE DEMAND TRANSPARENCY
Spain’s regulator for digital services, the CNMC, has held a closed-door meeting with Google, Meta, Pinterest, Snapchat, TikTok, Wikimedia and X to prepare for Spain’s general election on 29 November. The European Commission backed the meeting. Spain’s electoral authorities attended, along with civil society organisations and academics whose names have not been made public.
According to the CNMC, the meeting was meant to set up channels and protocols for cooperation between the authorities and the platforms if ‘serious incidents’ occur during the campaign. The legal basis is the EU’s Digital Services Act, which requires the largest platforms to limit ‘systemic risks’ to elections.
George Orwell has been resurrected in Spain. Democracy in the coming election is being protected from behind closed doors. Spain’s regulator, the European Commission, Big Tech and unnamed ‘civil society’ organisations, all of them unelected and unaccountable, are discussing electoral safeguards without publishing any of the measures they propose.
In the EU today, the public gets a ballot, while unelected guardians get a private meeting about the information surrounding it. This is managed democracy. Citizens keep the right to vote, while their freedom to judge competing arguments becomes a ‘risk’ for their guardians to manage.
Spanish voters do not know which organisations were in the room or what role they will play during the campaign. They do not know what counts as a ‘serious incident’, or who decides when the protocols are triggered.
The Democracy Interference Observatory has therefore filed access requests with both the European Commission and the CNMC. We have asked for the list of participants, the minutes, the platforms’ election plans, correspondence between the Commission and the CNMC, and any protocols agreed.
We call on the Commission and the CNMC to publish the list of participants before polling day. Elections belong to voters, not to regulators and platforms.

The EU's latest justification for its ongoing battle to censor the internet is now "negative effect on mental health".
Suppressing political alternatives because someone's feelings might get hurt.
Never more has Brave New World felt more appropriate.
We preliminarily found that TikTok’s ‘For You’ feed has a harmful design.
It shows users endless and repeated exposure of personalised videos, even when those have a negative effect on mental health.
While TikTok has implemented measures to mitigate this risk, we consider them insufficiently effective and call for readjustment.

What’s really behind Poland’s court coup? 🚨
The plan: a Constitutional Tribunal packed by Tusk’s camp that could even move to suspend President Nawrocki. Then the presidency, the Constitutional Tribunal and the Supreme Court all in Tusk’s hands before the 2027 elections, so that a close result is decided in advance.
@jerzKwasniewski of @OrdoIuris explains how it works and why Brussels is going along with it. 👇

1. Razveljaviti predsedniške volitve (Romunija);
2. Ukiniti informativni program na nacionalni RTV (Madžarska);
3. Poslati policijo na Ustavno sodišče (Poljska);
4. Tri tedne pred volitvami poslati v zapor predsednika stranke, ki vodi v anketah (Slovenija);
5. Zasesti nacionalno RTV s policijo in zamenjati vodstvo (Poljska);
6. Prekiniti mandate vodstvu nacionalne RTV in izvesti čistko zaposlenih (Slovenija);
7. Poslati v zapor člane prejšnje vlade brez možnosti obrambe (Madžarska);
8. Podeliti skoraj milijon državljanstev ilegalnim migrantom po hitrem postopku (Španija);
9. Zapreti novo Nuklearno elektrarno in zgraditi plinovod do Rusije (Nemčija);

A German NGO Flagged Romanian Content During Romania’s Elections
Democracy Reporting International took part in the Rapid Response System in Romania. Flags and flaggers remain secret. DRI says it didn’t flag journalists in 2025. So who did?
--------------
Excerpt: "Democracy Reporting International, a German NGO that has received funding from the EU, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Department of State, has flagged Romanian content during Romania’s elections.
Did Democracy Reporting International flag journalists?
According to them, no — but that’s just what they told me. At some point, only discovery through judicial proceedings will settle the question. Unless the Commission and the Irish Digital Services Coordinator decide it’s time to enforce the DSA and provide the full transparency we need regarding flagging. My Article 53 complaint is on their desks.
As you know if you follow my reporting, in Romania, my X account was suspended, the Facebook page of the Romanian edition of Le Monde diplomatique was suspended for two years and reinstated without explanation, and some TikTok content from the Romanian edition of Le Monde diplomatique has been completely shadow-banned.
Platforms have also suspended accounts and content, and demoted people and outlets such as Ion Cristoiu, Robert Turcescu, Marius Tucă, Victor Roncea, Active News, Vlad Mercori, Andrei Murgescu and Laurențiu Țîrcă. These are only the cases around the 2025 RRS activation — and nobody can tell us whether the moderation was “RRS-related” or not."

Why are Romanian elites running scared of snap elections?
Because they know that this time, they can't repeat the "trick" of simply cancelling them if they don't get the right result.

🇷🇴 | SNAP ELECTIONS: The Democratic Return to the Vote of the European Citizens!
What happens when a political establishment becomes isolated by elitism, detached from everyday realities of its citizens, and stagnant in its vision?
Today, the Romanian AUR Delegation of the ECR Group hosted an international conference at the European Parliament to debate snap elections.
Participants emphasised that elections remain the fundamental democratic instrument through which citizens can reaffirm their will, hold political leaders accountable and restore a country to the right course when the political class no longer reflects the mandate entrusted to it by the electorate.

🚨 DEMOCRACY WITHOUT THE DEMOS
Yesterday, the European Commission announced the pilot phase of its new stakeholder platform under the "European Centre for Democratic Resilience".
Never heard of it? Here’s what it does.
The Centre sits at the heart of the so-called "European Democracy Shield". Its job is officially to coordinate EU efforts to protect Europe’s information space, counter foreign interference and disinformation, and strengthen societal resilience. The new platform will advise the Centre on this.
So who gets a seat at the table? EU institutions themselves, together with national administrations, NGOs, fact-checkers, media organisations and researchers.
And it should come as no surprise: the EU itself funds these NGOs, media organisations and the fact-checking infrastructure operating in precisely this field. Brussels money created this very ecosystem in the first place.
Also, notice who is missing? Ordinary citizens.
Yet, in classic EU newspeak, the Commission insists on a “whole-of-society approach” that needs “everyone on board.” Apparently, “everyone” means institutions, experts and selected intermediaries, almost all organisations receiving EU funding. Everyone, that is, except the demos itself.
Citizens aren't participants in this 'EU Democracy Shield'. They are the people whose information environment is to be protected and whose “resilience” is to be strengthened by those sitting inside. It is a Euroristocracy deciding how the system should respond to what citizens see, hear and believe.
A 'Democracy Shield' without the demos:
All in the name of protecting democracy, of course. 🇪🇺

No cause, no judge, no limits: Germany’s state censors are deploying AI to spy on independent journalism 24/7
Welcome to the latest draft of Germany’s 'State Treaty on Digital Media', potentially the most dangerous blueprint for state-sponsored censorship in modern Europe.
Leaked drafts reveal that state media authorities should be allowed to unleash automated AI systems to continuously scrape online press, social media, text, audio, and video across the web.
The absolute kicker? THEY'RE TOSSING OUT THE NEED FOR AN ACTUAL CRIME. The state is grabbing total "PREVENTIVE" control to police political commentary, brand hard truths as "disinformation," and slap blocks or take-down orders on independent outlets without a judge ever seeing it.
This isn't protection, yet the chilling reality of the Merz government’s promised "ban on lies" (Lügenverbot). What they sold as public protection is an AI-fueled Ministry of Truth built to shield failing politicians.
Press freedom is a dead letter if nameless technocrats hold a digital kill switch over every headline in the country.
