Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass at noon on Friday in the room set up on the 10th floor of Gemelli Hospital, according to the Holy See Press Office.
Several members of Gemelli's medical and nursing staff attended the Mass, along with members of the Vatican City State Gendarmerie Corps.
"In his homily, the Pope thanked all the staff—doctors, nurses, and orderlies—for the work they do every day caring for patients in their frailty, and especially for what they have done and continue to do for him," read the statement.

On his 71st birthday, Pope Leo XIV visited the Vatican Apostolic Library and inaugurated an exhibition.
The visit held special personal significance for the Holy Father, who recalled that his mother had been a librarian:
“God, in His providence, and sometimes with a certain sense of humor, always makes us remember that He is with us,” Pope Leo said.
“Many of you may not know this, but my mother was a librarian. And today, on my birthday, I find myself here precisely to greet all of you.”
