Happy to announce that I've finally finished my Metafy on Basic Box for $10! This is my first time writing up one of these, any constructive feedback is much appreciated. I wanted to spend a lot of time on this to make sure it is worth the price, and if you enjoy my lengthier tweets breaking down my thoughts on the deck, I'd recommend giving it a look.
It is over 21,000 words (82 page Google Doc) covering:
- Core Cards
- Tech Cards
- Matchups (This alone was 40+ pages)
- General Play Principles
- Past Lists and Thoughts
- Where I'd take the deck for 30th

I had a great time writing this and will be open to any questions! ❤️
(Zero Generative AI was used in the write-up. This guide is released on the REFINE TCG Metafy. I will set one up for future guides if I make another)
13th/3122 at Baltimore with Sloppy Machinations! 🐒🦸♂️
Really really proud of my best finish yet!!
Deck felt great, losses were mostly due to poor draws against amazing players. Sad that top cut wound up at a clean 11-1-2 and not an asym at 11-2-1, but getting closer and closer to making my first cut.
Shoutouts to my friends, my teammates, and especially
@JustinBaby07 and @BunnyWarrior for running the same 60/59. I've put some thoughts on my techs below:
Passimian and Iron Leaves both proved very valuable for me. Hero's Cape was an incredible pick, and Xerosic's was great too.
🐒Passimian 🐒 really helped into Slowking and gave me a 1-1 record into Crustle instead of 0-2. Also prized Passimian pieces (or just Passimian) both games against the Crustle I lost to, but not sure if it would have been enough anyways. I was also looking to use it against Zoro to KO bench sitters but never quite got that combo in hand. Was very happy to see the monkey back in the list.
🍃Iron Leaves 🍃proved crucial into the string of Zoroarks I hit late in Day 2 and is probably the main reason I was able to top 16. Being able to trumpet Leaves into a KO on a fresh Zoro is just too much value in that matchup.
🦸♂️Hero's Cape🦸♂️ legitimately might have won me 8 sets or something ridiculous. It disrupts Pult and can really break math in your favor. I didn't have it scrapped or jammed once that I remembered, and caping Passimian makes the Crustle matchup much better as well. Was very glad I switched off stamp to this.
🥸Xerosic's 🥸 was my Zam tech, but I hit no Zam. It still felt pretty solid as a way to disrupt Zoro and Pult without having to shuffle your own hand into deck. Also scammed a Crustle player by surprising him with it which lead to a win via deck out.
Excited to have a strong start to the season, my Metafy is almost done.... so if you enjoy the yapping look forward to that sometime next week/weekend.

I got top 4 in the Tournament of Doom last night!! Slop is back on the menu. My only losses were to some bad draws and probably miss playing due to lack of sleep (it was 5 am in top 4). Shoutout to @DaHubsTCG who made top 16 with the same 59 (Boulder is good tho)! I love slop🤤🤤
10th / 656 in the Tournament of Doom with Iron Trio package in Slop.
🍃👑🪨
Thoughts Below:
Inclusions:
Iron Leaves ex 🍃 - Has felt amazing to put back in the deck. I've been on this card for a while now, as it provides great utility into retreat lock. Is also a very low-maintenance attacker that is exceptional into certain matchups (Grimm / Zoro especially) but can always poach a Meowth with Boss.
Iron Crown ex 👑 - Feels great as both a support mon for the other 2 (the damage modifier that comes up more often than you'd think) and as a board wiper into decks that run lots of little guys. Twin Shotels ruins festival lead and can be an out to beating Zam, both of which I played in Swiss. Massive value in both games, against flead he took every prize I think.
Iron Boulder ex 🪨 - Great answer into Festival Lead, Budew, and the mirror. Especially with wellspring, can use this to really punish the 2 prize, fighting-weak liabilities that are always on benches. Repulsor Axe was useful, Power Stomp is more situational but great into Khan, Lop, not as good into Dudun ex as I hoped.
Cuts -
2nd Water Energy - Cut this because it felt like it was only prize insurance for Crown. Didn't miss it but if you want to always have pump / worry about prize checking less, 1 water is usually not the way to go.
2nd Bolt - Same concerns as above, there are certain matchups right now that really require Bolt and if you prize it running only 1 you might lose on the spot. Wasn't punished though. Put Boulder in for this spot, didn't miss it but if you don't want to play him I would keep the 2nd bolt. See the list from friend @JustinBaby07 who got 3rd!!
Losses:
Dead hand into slowking last round of swiss, lost 3-3 in 3 turns be being forced to give up double Khan.
Top 16 - Lost to Lucario. Did misplay some game 1, not the best matchup if they get established early - especially if they run Dudun ex / you run only 1 raging bolt.
Overall Thoughts:
Feel free to let me know if y'all liked the longer breakdown, I've been getting some requests so figured I would try to explain more of my thought process. :)
Lost in finals at the Win Condition 3k, deck felt insane. Shoutout to @JustinBaby07 for making top 4 with the same 60, list feels insanely optimal (minus the matchup into Alakzam) Played lots of incredible players, awesome store! Grind for worlds continues 😎😤😤😤

Top 4 at the @win_condition worlds warm up 3k!! Didn't know what to play so I just sent whatever list @DaHubsTCG was playing and it seems to have payed off since he made finals too. Shouldn't have made it past top 8 but I sacked the ever living dog piss out of @mattsPoKeTweets 😋
52nd at NAIC with Clown Slop! Paid the Crustle tax TWICE after an 8-0 phase 1 after debating Koraidon V Enamorus all week. Zoro L to a Khan whiff to kill Fez 😮💨Happy with my performance/play overall!

8-0 Phase 1! Into an auto loss round 9 but very happy with the performance and thankful for the luck I had today. Looking forward to a fun day 2 tomorrow! :)
NAIC travel off to a great start... missed my first flight by 4 minutes! Was able to rebook at the low cost of another $100 and 4 hours of my life into the void 😮💨
