Note the very clear personal irritation coming through in the presenter here. Her opinion is palpable. This is one of the many issues with BBC, as also demonstrated by Nick Robinson two days ago. This was not a journalist playing devil’s advocate or, in adherence with BBC policy, stating Israel’s line in response. It was opinionated questioning. What she said was also inaccurate. The genocide is not “greatly contested”. It is contested by Israel.

🚨HEARTBREAKING: An Israeli bombardment in Gaza during Israel’s genocidal war killed a Palestinian woman’s husband and all her children, leaving her as the sole surviving member of her immediate family.
She speaks about the loss of her entire family and the grief she continues to endure.

Streeting: "I have seen first hand.. the impact of Russias aggression in terms of the childrens toys lying in the rubble of the flats that had been destroyed, bombed out shopping centres.."
Now do Gaza, Wes. And the difference, of course, is that you've helped Israel do it.

Apparently Nick Robinson is proud of this exchange, which says a lot about journalistic standards at the BBC and the framing that it deems acceptable. What Robinson was doing here was aggressively guarding the Overton window. He was not playing devil's advocate as an impartial journalist – he was clearly arguing a point he personally believed in. The Today programme is not supposed to be hosted by pundits, but its presenters regularly lapse into opinionated questioning. And most of that opinion, that ire, is directed at the left.
If you attended a funeral every day for each child, it would take over 57 years.

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty

This is the best news of the week! Navi Pillay, a former ICC judge and chair of the UN commission that concluded Israel committed a genocide in Gaza, won the Nobel Peace Prize on Friday "for her efforts to promote peace and international law”. Thank you for your leadership!

Congratulations Justice Pillay!
The committee in granting her the Nobel peace prize: “An international legal system in which war criminals are held to account and the victims of abuse see justice served is a precondition for a peaceful world.”
May this justice start in Palestine

Please read this before voting for Sagal. Her record is poor, to put it politely

It's one of the few pieces on her to really probe some of her claims. Check it out: the-londoner.co.uk/sagal-abd…

The by-election in my home constituency tomorrow is going to be close. Anyone considering voting Lib Dem or WP should seriously reconsider. Your votes could prevent the Starmerite Labour candidate, whose record on everything from housing to Gaza, is appalling, from being elected.
