THIS.
I’ve had a customer complain that “not one of your three employees greeted me” on a day when it was just me in the garden center. I could have called her a liar but instead I apologized that she felt that way and invited her back for us to make it right.
Because that’s how you keep good customers, by showing that in the face of rudeness you’re the bigger person.
The Art of Play co-owner just made his store’s Kelly Clarkson problem much worse. Adam Rubin spent Tuesday talking to multiple tabloids, playing the victim at his store in Brooklyn while falsely accusing Clarkson of sending a mob after him and his employees.
This is one of the most ridiculous examples of bad retail management I’ve ever seen. All Rubin had to do was apologize to Clarkson. If he was smart he would’ve said he spoke to his staff and wanted to invite her back to give the store another chance. Some might call that weak. But that would’ve been professional. It would’ve shown other potential customers that Art of Play puts the customer first. Instead Rubin’s putting his own victim mentality first.
He told reporters that Clarkson “put us in danger,” that her post was like “she threw a Molotov cocktail at us,” and that the backlash is “asymmetrical social warfare.” He also raised the price of the bird at the center of the dispute to $15 million “due to popular demand.”
Clarkson’s original complaint was simple. She said she was looked at like she couldn’t afford the item she asked about and was offered “something comparable.” The store first claimed the bird on the wall she asked about wasn’t for sale. Clarkson then posted a photo of the $15,000 price tag hanging in the store next to that bird. Then the store walked their story back with a ridiculous tale about a nearly identical twin bird (owned by the artist in Seattle who made the original) available for $15,000 and a cheaper alternative she didn’t stay to see. If this story by the store was true then they should’ve never had a price tag next to the bird on the wall if it wasn’t for sale. Moreover, they shouldn’t have been rude to Clarkson.
The original interaction this weekend that started this mess could’ve ended with a short apology from the store and an invitation back to Clarkson. That would’ve shown customers the store actually cares about how people are treated. Rubin chose to keep arguing and turn the item into a publicity prop instead. That’s just bad business.
Shop owners who want decent press don’t do this. They don’t keep talking after the customer’s already moved on, and they don’t raise the price of the disputed item to $15 million while complaining about the fallout. The employees take their cues from the top. Right now the top’s still arguing instead of admitting the shop’s interaction went badly. Clarkson already told her side. The store already told its side. Rubin’s continued interviews are just keeping the story alive. And his continued badmouthing of Clarkson just shows everyone where his employees learned how to act badly.
I’m railing on Rubin because his actions reflect a much bigger issue in these liberal cities: the unfounded sense of entitlement by people who are supposed to be providing a service. He’s running a store. He’s supposed to make customers feel welcome and even special. At the very least he should be respectful and go out of his way to make them happy. Instead he acts like Clarkson should be bending a knee to him just for existing.
I’m glad Clarkson spoke up and made Art of Play in Brooklyn, NY, a huge story. Accountability like this is how society learns. The store co-owner may not learn a thing, but other people who run a business and see Rubin’s results of poor customer service are certainly getting an education.
Over 70% of divorces involving children are initiated by the female. In court men do not fare well and men who put in writing negative attacks on their X are likely to suffer even worse in the court system. A woman can bar his visitation for years easily.
My wife and I decided to get a divorce.
There were no fights, just two adults who realised they drifted apart from each other.
This is probably the hardest thing I had to go through.
First of all, telling our girls...seeing them so sad was heartbreaking. But we are still a team as parents and will do everything for them!
Also we have to sell our house, the house I wanted to live in forever and raise my kids in...
Going back to a smaller appartment will be rough.
I still have a lot of to handle, that's why I wasn't active here on X.
I'm really grateful for all the people who reached out and asked where I was 🙏🏼
This women will always be a part of my life, she gifted me with two perfect daughters.
I wish her all the best, great memories were made in those years!
I'll be back soon. Thank you everyone 🙏🏼

🚨 GRAD STUDENT ACCUSED OF POISONING COLLEAGUE’S TEA ARRESTED AT LAX.
WHAT IN THE SCIENCE LAB NIGHTMARE IS THIS? 💀
Aili Wang, 32, a University of Wyoming microbiology graduate student, is accused of buying the toxic chemical acrylamide online and putting it in a colleague’s tea.
MADAM. NO.
The colleague reportedly developed unexplained neurological symptoms.
Prosecutors also allege Wang accessed the colleague’s research, which involved pending patents.
After investigators questioned her, authorities say she attempted to leave for China.
She was arrested at LAX on October 6.
Jesus Christ.
Her colleague’s professor says a full recovery remains uncertain.
Wang faces a felony assault charge. These are allegations, not a conviction. No foreign-government involvement has been established.
A POISONED CUP OF TEA. A RESEARCH DISPUTE. AN AIRPORT ARREST.
And a scientist whose health may never fully recover.

JNN requires receipts. 👑💀
Wild stuff to not ask questions but guy seems nice enough for sure it would be a little but stressful but in a good way as their business will benefit bigtime from all the press.
Was the item priced when she visited?
Was it an owner her handled her that day?
Did that person know it was Clarkson?
This might be the weirdest niche story of the month lmfao 😭 Today, the owner of Art of Play in Brooklyn Heights spoke with us about his viral feud with Kelly Clarkson.
It all started when Clarkson tweeted that a store employee was rude to her and treated her like she couldn’t afford a $15,000 mechanical singing bird.
Her tweet has since racked up over 40 million views, sparking a back-and-forth between the two. The store insists the bird was never for sale, while Clarkson shared a photo of its price tag and accused the owner of lying.
Who’s in the wrong here? 👀 🫣😂😂😂😂
Not enough stories about the ratings crash in non @CaitlinClark22 games especially the finals. As the @AtlantaDream just dont attract alot of viewers or in person fans

Hey @thehill, it is crazy you would allow people who publicly advocate for my assasination to write this sort of piece for you.
Could you please add some sort of disclaimer, like "Editors Note: The think tank that wrote this thinks Palmer should be killed in the streets."
"Hegseth’s ‘Project Meridian’ is a conflict of interest in the making" (@TheHillOpinion) thehill.com/opinion/national…
Turns out the artwork was for sale after all and it is $15,000. Had she not encounted the owner himself that first visit she likely would have gotten better treatment as cooler heads could have prevailed.
How not to run a business.
1) Tell someone shopping an item that was priced for sale was not for sale to her
2) Post saying it wasn't for sale ever.
3) Follow with it was for sale for $15,000 but would take time to arrive.
Another update from Art of Play, the Brooklyn store Kelly Clarkson criticized on Saturday in a viral tweet.
Check my timeline for the previous back-and-forth.

ALT Screenshot of @artofplay’s statement about Kelly Clarkson’s Saturday visit. The store says she spent five minutes there and asked about Molly, a mechanical bird puppet permanently attached to the wall. It says Seattle artist Bliss Kolb owns a nearly identical automaton and would sell it for $15,000, and that staff explained this to Clarkson. The store also says it offered to show her a German-made singing-bird automaton costing about $2,000 that she could take home that day, but she left before seeing it. Art of Play says it has contacted her directly, wishes her well and hopes they can laugh about the misunderstanding.

The owners should have posted
"We are sorry to hear about your recent experience please reach out via dm or contact the store and ask to speak to the owner and we will make it right"
But nope the owners appear to have been distinctly exactly what Clarkson claims in her original post
Cool, cool. Sure, it wasn’t for sale. That’s the narrative Art of Play is gonna go with 👍 so the whole conversation we had when I asked you if it was for sale whilst pointing to the price tag hanging on the wall with the title Singing Bird didn’t happen as you elevator eyed me saying in a condescending tone “yes, it’s for sale but it costs 15,000 dollars so if you’d like me to find something comparable for you I can.” That all never happened and now it’s not for sale. Okay, cool. So you’re not only rude, you’re also a liar. Got it ✅
And by the way, I obviously support small businesses because I was literally at a small business trying to purchase things. I love small businesses and know they are important and I always support them, but you don’t get a free pass to treat people less than in your store just because you are a small business. It’s not that hard to be kind. I never blast people but you my friend were an exception.
Your store is really cool.
Unfortunately, you aren’t.
