In the US there are 435 in the Lower House and 100 in the Upper House. Firstly, can someone explain why the UK, with 1/5 of the population, needs 650 MPs and hundreds of Lords? Secondly, can someone estimate the savings the country could make by reducing these ridiculous numbers?

So, I am being accused of treason. Here is why.
Yesterday, Zelenskyy visited the German Bundestag and apparently learned that I was scheduled to speak here today. Immediately after his visit, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Prosecutor General’s Office announced in the media that I was suspected of treason.
The same thing happened a month and a half ago, when Zelenskyy personally imposed sanctions on me as soon as he learned that I was going to address the European Parliament.
Now, take a closer look: the traitor is not Yermak, who faces allegations of laundering $10 million. Not Mindich or Halushchenko, who are suspected of laundering more than $100 million. The traitor is Mendel, who has not stolen a single penny.
Do you know what this treason case is being fabricated for? For speaking about you, the Ukrainian people. About how tired you are of corruption and war, how you struggle with poverty and are forced to survive under coercive mobilization, about the horrors at the front and the torture inflicted by the recruitment centers. That is what this treason case is being fabricated for.
This is a clear sign of Zelenskyy’s weakness and his fear of words. He is afraid of his own former press secretary.
And that only confirms that I am doing the right thing.
Stay tuned for my speech at the Bundestag today.
For, as Christ said: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”

It's going to be interesting to see her swallow the bitter pill of reality.
Kallas admitted that it is difficult to help Ukraine wage war against Russia without the United States.
“Europe is providing support to Ukraine, and Canada is also supporting Ukraine—both financially and militarily. But, of course, it is difficult if the United States is not on our side. I can even understand where this line of thinking comes from. If you want to end the war quickly, the simplest way is to force the weaker side to just give up. ‘Why don’t you just surrender? It’s only a matter of territory, after all. Why don’t you just give up those territories?’”
If you believe in justice you should support this!

And those who say they want a ceasefire before a peace need to explain their logic...
Great overview of the many times the transatlantic pro-war lobby scuttled a peace deal that would have left Ukraine in a much better shape than it is today — and avoided hundreds of thousands of deaths. I would simply add that Ukraine lost its independence and sovereignty in 2014, when it became a NATO colony — which is precisely why it was not allowed to sign a peace deal with Russia.
I am happy that Lula has won, but not necessarily because of hi internal policies. This result should strengthen BRICS.
Sorry to say, but our mainstream media coverage of this matter is outstandingly biased!
Some Western journalists are no better than RT or other Russian propaganda outlets.
I have repeatedly made clear that I oppose Ukraine’s surrender. At the same time, I believe that if the war continues under the current approach, Ukraine will eventually be forced to surrender. It is painful to watch the same dysfunctional decisions being repeated, decisions that are leading the country toward collapse rather than preserving its independence.
This is why Ukraine needs to pursue a realistic negotiated settlement. The present strategy—diplomacy based on threats and public humiliation, combined with constant appeals for funding while corruption and the war erode the country from within—has failed. It benefits a narrow group while damaging Ukraine’s long-term interests.
I never say that Ukraine “must surrender.” On the contrary, I believe my homeland Ukraine can remain an independent and sovereign state and maintain constructive relations with its neighbors and Western partners. Achieving that, however, requires abandoning a failed strategy that serves the few at the expense of the country as a whole.
Ms. @cleaveiona of The @Telegraph misrepresented my position in her article. It appears that a relatively inexperienced reporter, with limited background in covering conflicts and negotiations, was tasked with casting me as an adversary. This is a clear example of propaganda displacing journalism, and it reflects poorly on both the individual and the outlet. I would urge anyone approached by her for information or an interview to treat the request with caution, given the serious inaccuracies in her reporting about me.
All insults to the UN, please. I'll accept any rational critique.

Why am I, Iuliia Mendel — Zelensky’s former press secretary — under sanctions, and not Andriy Yermak? Yermak was Zelensky’s unelected right-hand man, Head of the Presidential Office from 2020 to 2025 — the real power behind the throne. He is accused of laundering $10.5 million through luxury estates in the Dynasty compound in Kozyn near Kyiv. The same Yermak, according to multiple accounts, convinced Zelensky a full-scale invasion would not happen. Forces were concentrated toward Donbas as if the main fight would be there. Other directions — the south and the approaches to Kyiv — were left more exposed. Those regions were among the first to fall. He concentrated power, consulted an astrologer on top appointments, and sat at the center of the circle now drowning in the Energoatom scandal. But Zelensky sanctions not Yermak — he sanctions his former press secretary, right before her speech to the European Parliament about peace. Don’t you find that strange?

A few days before my address to the European Parliament, Volodymyr Zelenskyy—my former boss—imposed sanctions on me. Sanctions against Ukrainian citizens are unconstitutional, just like many of Zelenskyy’s other decisions. Volodymyr Zelenskyy uses them against anyone who advocates for peace in Ukraine. I knew that "high treason" charges were being prepared over my interview with Tucker Carlson, and I anticipated the possibility of sanctions. This does not change my position, nor that of millions of Ukrainians. To survive, Ukraine needs peace, not another autocracy—even if it is Zelenskyy’s autocracy.
I listened to Ed Milliband's speech concerning sanctions against Israeli settlements and realised that I would rather have him as PM than Burnham. But all credit to Burnham for appointing him. I wonder if they will apply the same rational approach elsewhere in the world?

George Kennan on NATO expansion (May 2, 1998): ''I think it is the beginning of a new Cold War... I think the Russians will gradually react quite adversely and it will affect their policies. I think it is a tragic mistake. There was no reason for this whatsoever. No one was threatening anybody else. This expansion would make the Founding Fathers of this country turn over in their graves... Of course there is going to be a bad reaction from Russia, and then [the NATO expanders] will say that we always told you that is how the Russians are -- but this is just wrong.''
