It surprised me that @Gadi_Eisenkot, the face of failure in Israel's security establishment, emerged as the leader of the opposition to @Netanyahu. In an excellent article, "What qualifies Eisenkot to be prime minister?" @DrorEydar shows why he is very much the wrong person to become prime minister. For one, he is "a quintessential product of the Oslo school of thought, the old strategic mindset that interpreted the conflict between Israel and its neighbors in rational, territorial terms." israelhayom.com/opinions/wha…

Good news out of @Harvard University! I cannot even remember the last time that happened. Maybe, just maybe, this course marks a turning point, where professors unapologetically teach the best the humanities have to offer? wsj.com/lifestyle/harvard-cl…

Believe it or not: The UK's National Health Service (@NHSuk) classified a 44-year-old mother of two, #HollyPassmore, as a “vulnerable adult” because she advocated for Israel. Indeed she supports Israel "to the point that she has travelled to Israel.” Imagine that! As a result, she received a house visit from two plainclothes police officers wanting to know why she had recently visited Israel.
When Holly Passmore heard a knock at her front door at about 11am on July 4 last year, she assumed it was an Amazon delivery. Instead, the 44-year-old mother-of-two from County Durham found two plain-clothes police officers on her doorstep wanting to know why she had recently visited Israel ⤵️ telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

.@GerardTBaker also agrees, wants the GOP to undergo a "thrashing": "When a party has failed us and our values, a thrashing at the polls is the necessary route to remedy and redemption." Indeed. wsj.com/opinion/these-republ…
Nice to see that @GeorgeWill agrees about the need for a GOP defeat, going even further than me, hoping "that on Nov. 3 most of the Republican Party will be smashed to atoms. It is now a trembling and embarrassed, because frightened, emanation of one man." He makes exceptions for Mike Rogers and Susan Collins, as do I. washingtonpost.com/opinions/…

This podcast by #SecretStateFiles, "American Cities Were Once Full of Cheap Boarding Houses—So Why Did They Disappear?" explains something I'd long wondered about: Why did the homeless become a major U.S. problem in the 1980s? In brief: Progressives in the early 1900s began a campaign to outlaw the boarding houses, rooming houses, single-room occupancy units, and other inexpensive lodging. They succeeded—and homelessness followed. In brief: Another erroneous leftist policy did great harm. youtube.com/watch?v=OYMZWuuU…

Headline: "US ties with Ukraine hit new low as Trump slights Zelenskyy and eases up on Russia" Of Trump's many errors, this is the most consequential and morally the most egregious. Helping Putin's Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine shames me as an American. apnews.com/article/trump-zel…

Two thoughts about @AbdulElSayed, @TheDemocrats' candidate for Senate in Michigan: 1) Unlike the other Muslim members of Congress, like Omar & Tlaib, he is an Islamist and therefore even more dangerous than them. 2) Unlike Mamdani, who can be judged by how New York City fares, as senator, El-Sayed would be judged by his rhetoric, not his actions.

This is extremely useful. With it, Mansouri offers a long-awaited retort to Erdoğan's 2004 statement in Chicago about there being no much thing as "moderate Islam"; let's hope her honest statement cancels Erdoğan's mendacity.
“We are Muslims, not Islamists.” Morocco’s first female prime minister, Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri, has drawn widespread criticism for distinguishing her Muslim faith from “Islamist” politics. A member of the secularist Authenticity and Modernity Party, El Mansouri has spoken about balancing Morocco’s Islamic identity with modernity and reform.

Türkiye's colonization of Syria proceeds. The caption under this picture reads "Students arrive for class on the opening day of the new Damascus International Recep Tayyip Erdogan Turkish School in the Artouz area on the outskirts of Damascus on October 4, 2026. The school of some 600 to 900 students will be run by Turkey's Ministry of National Education in coordination with the Turkish Embassy."

Trump: “Gays for Palestine, how about that. I saw it today, and I said, ‘Wait a minute.' Do you know what they do to gay people in that part of the world? Let’s send them over someday to negotiate. You’ll never see them again. I don’t want to tell you, but they do things you wouldn’t believe.” timesofisrael.com/at-rally-t…

This @WashingtonPost story confirms my view, that whether future presidents emulate or reject Trump as a model depends on the general sense of him: "The shape of the post-Trump future will be determined by how Americans feel when he exits the stage: Will they applaud his exercise of power and attacks on long-standing structures? Or will they recoil?" I bet on recoiling. This moment will be seen not as the start of an era but as an aberration. And in that lies good news for the country. washingtonpost.com/politics/…

.@AmirTaheri4 at @GatestoneInst: "Today, perhaps for the first time in decades, there is a realistic chance of thinking of regime change in Tehran. But for that chance to be translated into reality, the leftover Khomeinist regime must be defeated politically. And that requires intervention by the Iranian people. That intervention, however, cannot take place under bombs or a steep rise in quotidian hardship. … Iranian people need a chance to catch their breath and resume their fight for freedom and dignity." gatestoneinstitute.org/22899…
