An unfortunate feature of online apologetics is how quickly ordinary disagreements become moral accusations. Sometimes simply affirming a standard interpretation merits charges of being a liar, fraud, etc.
The culture we are building is unhealthy and unsustainable. Let's return to love, reflection, the beatitudes, being "slow to speak, slow to anger."
Seems like a good idea *if* it’s accurate

How could one read the Gospels and not form a mental representation of Jesus?

Important book. Published form of David Moser's SMU dissertation, it's a powerful case showing how the Son wields his own humanity as the instrument of salvation. Good on patristic sources & doctrinal issues, tho by bulk it's 85% Thomas (& then narrows into merely RC channels).

The great Augustine (c. AD 400), arguably the most influential teacher for a thousand years, admitted that he often felt "depressed" after his speeches. Writing to his friend Deogratias, who'd expressed frustration with his own teaching, Augustine replied: "It is the same with me too: I am nearly always dissatisfied with the address that I give ... When I find that my actual address fails to express what I have before my mind, I am depressed by the fact that my tongue has been unable to keep up with my intellect." Augustine, Instructing Beginners (De Catechizandis Rudibus), Prologue §3.

Fun fact: St. Thomas was Italian, so "Summa theologiae" is actually just him saying "some theology."
Just received my copy of the new T&T Clark Handbook of Biblical Thomism.
I have a chapter on sin in the new T&T Clark Handbook on Biblical Thomism, which has just been published

Working yourself to death is not a virtue! Your life is meant to be a *living* sacrifice.

If you have oversight over his life, and you believe he's working himself into an early grave, might I suggest helping him find more support, so he merely works himself into an on-time grave?

Congrats @gavinortlund! Looking forward to reading this
New book. Releasing September 2026.
I poured my heart into it, more than anything I’ve ever written.
It’s a brief, popular-level case that Christianity can explain both the world around us and the deep ache within us. Think Mere Christianity, with an emotional twist, tailored toward Gen Z.
Please pray it draws people toward the enchanting wonder of the gospel.
My information consumption is now 1/4 Scripture, 1/4 sermons, 1/4 premodern theology, and 1/4 modern theology published before 2022
