I'm proud to use my lived experience every day to try better our peers experience of the NHS/role model a unique sense of recovery.
The comments in the press this week have shown me we still have a long way to go to break the stigma.

I work using my lived experience of accessing numerous NHS mental health services. Laying myself bare often to see less of what greatly harmed me and more of what helped me. I refuse to let the words of poorly researched articles prevent me from continuing this work.

The writers of the headlines do not understand Lived Experience & have not even tried. They do not know what it takes, to openly name yourself as Lived Experience. They do not know what we have experienced or the courage, vulnerability, strength, determination & fight we have 🔥

@DrAbdullahMia @melanieanneball don’t let this I’ll informed, cheap jibe at these valuable LX roles hurt you. It’s a jab at the NHS in reality but we march on and are bigger and better than this. These colleagues are part of modernisation and the future and here to stay!
This is so infuriating and saddening, I'm sorry @melanieanneball is caught in this.
Why is it such a threat to have a valued LXP role? Amongst the rhetoric of fairer systems, patient focus and ensuring balance in approaches, whose envy and fear is destroying this?!

Honestly after Panorama/Dispatches/Manchester/TEWV scandals in the last eight weeks the Lived Experience community needs these attacks not only on social media but from the telegraph, the times and the daily mail like a hole in the head.

I am proposing building supported ‘career’ pathways for people with lived experience that will:
- provide meaningful progression for patients/service users
- augment staff capacity and capability
- humanise healthcare
This is a workforce issue, and goes beyond ‘engagement’.
People with mental health difficulties bring a unique perspective to shaping services. But too often, involvement feels tokenistic, and maintains unequal power dynamics.

I let a friend read some of my old mental notes from when I was younger and they said it was like reading about a different person. Some people wrote me off at 18 and I guess that's why I ended up in #PeerSupport, I see that things can change for people 💛
