The Prime Minister is making dementia research a priority. This is a huge moment! He set out an ambition for the UK to lead the world in discovering new treatments to beat dementia, alongside substantial new investment in The BARBARA Alliance. It's a major vote of confidence in the researchers, clinicians and organisations working together to accelerate progress, remove barriers to clinical trials and accelerate progress towards new treatments. With sustained investment, earlier diagnosis and a determination to make research accessible to everyone, we have a real opportunity to create the change that's so desperately needed. The tide is turning on phone theft in London. 16,000 fewer phones were stolen last year following the Met's biggest ever crackdown and record funding for our police service from City Hall.

If you don't have help from the bank of Mum and Dad, this is for you: This government is introducing the Your First Home scheme to help more young people buy their first home with a deposit of just 2.5%. That means less to save upfront, and lower monthly costs once you’ve got the keys. And this help is coming soon, with pre-registration set to open by the end of the year.

The people of Sudan cannot afford further escalation. They cannot afford an international community that fails to deliver. My message at the @UN is clear: we must apply real pressure to secure a ceasefire and hold those who sustain this conflict accountable.
Drone warfare has opened a chilling new chapter in Sudan. Hospitals, aid convoys, and even nurseries have been struck by evermore lethal and indiscriminate attacks. The UK is pushing for civilians to be protected, and for those attacking them to be held to account.

We welcome @mtpennycook's commitment in the Social Housing Bill debate to pursue changing legislation if guidance is insufficient. This would help reduce barriers for families who have survived domestic abuse to move out of temporary accommodation. @DannyBeales @jessphillips

I’m deeply concerned about the potential adverse impacts of Heathrow Expansion on air quality, noise pollution, our environment and the transport networks in the capital and beyond. While aviation plays an important role in our economy and helps to keep us connected as a global city, any growth must not come at the expense of Londoners’ health or our environment. London is proud to be leading the way in tackling the climate crisis, but I see no evidence these proposals are compatible with a credible path to Net Zero. As we grapple with the sobering consequences of the climate emergency in the form of extreme heatwaves, drought and wildfires, the evidence suggests Heathrow expansion is a risk that we simply cannot afford to take. We’ve made incredible strides to clean up London’s air in recent years, improving health and saving lives by bringing down levels of toxic pollution. A third runway at Heathrow would put this progress in peril, as well as increasing noise pollution to unacceptable levels, blighting local communities who are already suffering. I’m also worried that Heathrow’s expansion could overwhelm transport networks in the capital and beyond, creating gridlock and forcing the taxpayer to pick up a multi-billion-pound bill for the necessary public transport improvements, which are left undefined and unfunded in the current proposals. The truth is the whole case for Heathrow expansion relies on outdated evidence that fails to take into account the urgent challenges we face today. I will continue to vehemently oppose these plans as I seek to build a fairer, safer, greener, more prosperous London for everyone.
