One of the first things Democrats should pass is a bill to raise the federal minimum wage to $20 an hour by 2031.
1) It helps people while costing the government nothing at a time when we have a $2 trillion deficit.
2) It would cause around 40 million workers, or roughly one-quarter of the US workforce, to get a raise.
3) It would decrease federal spending by reducing reliance on assistance programs.
4) It would increase federal revenue without increasing taxes.
5) It would reduce hardship and improve the economy, as people would have more money to spend.
The federal minimum wage hasn't increased since 2009 and is a poverty wage for a single adult in every state.
Workers deserve fair pay for their hard work.
