There is an actual percentage error, or APE, that is taken, and then a mean, in the literature by Vendecwick in 20-19, and then a mean accuracy percentage error, in that study which did over 600 trials with 5 different devices in multiple locations, the mean actual percentage error came in at under 2%, however there was variation depending on the location and walking versus running. So in trials of walking, the step count would be lower than the actual numbers of steps taken. Those trials were done at the Netherlands Forensic Institute which is almost like NIST in how they do their trials. Running might lead to an overcount, and that is attributed to arm swing. That's where we see the highest differentials with running while the phone is in hand. They did a second set of trials and they had the people hold the phone right at their body, and they determined that would be much more accurate. That is a 92-98% accuracy range for walking studies."

📱 9:03 PM: Birchmore sent a Snapchat message asking about a work schedule.
📱9:08 PM: Matthew Farwell texted Birchmore asking if he could "come by for a second.”
📱9:10 PM: Birchmore texted Farwell telling him the apartment door would be open; her phone also recorded sensory movement data at this time.
📱9:13 PM: Birchmore’s phone was locked.
📱9:14 PM: Surveillance footage showed Farwell entering Birchmore’s apartment building.
📱9:18 PM: The phone recorded a screenshot of a black screen.
📱9:28 PM: A coworker replied to Birchmore's message, which she never opened.
📱9:40 PM: Birchmore’s phone recorded its final movement (logging eight steps) before stopping.
📱9:43 PM: Surveillance footage showed Farwell exiting the building.
And no one ever heard another word, got another phone call, received a late night text from Sandra ever again.
Everyone that knew Sandra Birchmore testified that she was an over-sharer. EVERY ONE said that. Even her own therapist had to put up boundaries with Sandra because Sandra would contact her at all hours of the day.
BUT once Matthew Farwell left her apartment, all phone activity stopped forever.
None of her friends got the usual immediate update on what happened when Matthew Farwell left her apartment.
#SandraBirchmore left this earth while #MatthewFarwell was still by her side. His was the last face she saw. The person she called her best friend and the love of her life watched the life leave her and then left like nothing even happened.
I think the jury sees the evil and he will be found guilty.

Exclusive story from @LAmag as the Matthew Farwell's defense gets ready to begin presenting its case as early as tomorrow.
In the summer of 2024, as the FBI was closing in on Matthew Farwell, the then ex-Stoughton Police Detective wrote what a federal prosecutor called a "goodbye letter to his best friend," asking this his kids be taken care of.
Farwell ended that letter with: "see you on the other side."
Then, on July 5, 2024, Easton Police got a 911 call that a black GMC truck had plowed into National Grid pole head-on with such force, it split the pole in two. The truck's airbags all deployed in the one-vehicle collision that occurred very close to the ex cop's Chesnut Street home.
The driver? Matthew Farwell. He told responding officers slammed into the pole when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer.

Why would Massachusetts State Police withhold crime scene photos and witness statements from the Commonwealth's medical examiner during the Sandra Birchmore death investigation?

John O'Keefe's deep scratches and marks were exclusively on his right forearm. Think about basic human anatomy—when a person is standing or walking, the inside of the right forearm is structurally shielded by the torso.
If he was facing AWAY from the reversing vehicle, the outer parts of his body—his back, right shoulder blade, and right hip—would take the entire brunt of a 24-mph impact. A 6,000-lb SUV cannot physically bypass a man's entire torso to selectively slice up the inside of his hanging arm. Hitting his torso hard enough to launch him would completely crush his ribs and organs, yet his torso had ZERO impact trauma.
If you claim he was facing TOWARD the car with his arm held out in the road to take the hit, it gets even more absurd. An unanchored, hanging 10-lb human arm behaves like a loose pendulum. Under the laws of momentum, clipping a loose 10-lb arm cannot transfer enough kinetic energy to launch a 216-lb body 10 to 12 feet deep onto a grass lawn, which is exactly where the Commonwealth's own scene mapping proved his body was found. To throw a body that far onto the grass, the car MUST hit his center of mass.
Whether he was facing toward it, away from it, standing, or walking, your theory is a geometric joke. A 3-ton SUV cannot select a single inner forearm to obliterate its own heavy internal plastic housing, transfer 4,000 lbs of peak force to throw a whole body 12 feet onto a lawn, yet leave the arm completely unbroken and unbruised.
The independent federal ARCCA experts explicitly modeled this exact 3D geometry and testified under oath that it was a physical impossibility.

Within this new regulation proposal, it appears the POST Commission is seeking to close the loophole that the City of Boston used to avoid sanctioning Boston PD Commissioner Michael Cox at Attorney Alan Jackson’s request.
Jackson sent a letter to Boston’s Mayor Michelle Wu and to POST Director Enrique Zuniga one year ago on 10/27/25. In the letter, he called for Cox to be added to the Brady List and for POST to initiate a full disciplinary review, after it was proven that Cox lied to the media and the public on video about his knowledge of one of his own officers, Kelly Dever’s, involvement in the Karen Read case.
Even though POST defines the Commissioner as a law enforcement officer who shall face the same sanctions for misconduct, the City of Boston told them that pursuant to their own regulations, Commissioner Cox is an executive civilian, not a “sworn law enforcement officer.”🙄
